HD TV display of standard definiton programming?
Hello All,
I have a Panasonic Viera LCD HDTV and it looks pretty good with the HD programming. My only issue is whenever I'm watching standard definition programming the picture is not very good. My friends who have standard TV's have better picture when it comes to the standard programming. And as we know, only a small percentage of programming on TV is actually broadcasted in HD, so the rest of the time I have inferior picture compared to that of my standard definition friends. I also used to have a Sharp Aquos LCD HD TV but that one too had the same issue. Is this normal? Is there anything I could do to improve the picture quality of Standard definition programming? Or do I just have bad luck and have picked out not one, but two faulty HD TV's?
Any and all help is appreciated.

there could be two problems.
1- standard def on a HD TV will show its poor quality because it is being broadcast at a much lower resolution (480, i believe.). so all the imperfections will be more noticeable.
2- it could be that there are settings on your tv that could be stretching the image causing it to distort even more.
but in general, there will be a lower quality on regular broadcoast over HD broadcast. without seeing the image is hard to say if its normal or not.

Short answer? No. If you set your Xbox to HD it will not display properly. A standard Def TV can't do HD. The only thing you can really buy is an HD TV.

Yeah, if you can control the settings ( I think you can on the Viera) Just set it to view the standard def in its original size instead of having it automatically stretch the picture, which is what its doing to compensate for the lack of resolution.
