What can I use besides bleach to disinfect garden tools?

I wanted to prune some shrubs today but I need to disinfect my pruners because I used them on a diseased plant the last time. I just discovered that I'm out of bleach. Is there another household item that I can use for this?

Rubbing alcohol, but you will have to soak your tools for at least 20 minutes to a half an hour. Alcohol is not the best choice, but will work in a pinch. Make sure you wash the tools first to remove ALL the debris on the tools BEFORE you soak them in alcohol. You have to soak them longer, because the alcohol does not kill as quickly or thoroughly as bleach.

    A vat of rubbing alcohol.
