I live in New York about 15 minutes from New York City in the suburbs. My neighborhood is about 97% white affluent professionals. Its about 2.5% Hispanics who are also professionals and about .5% African American professionals. There aren't many differences in the way that we live. We live in a very friendly neighborhood where everyone brings their traditions to make it more diverse than what it may seem. We have Jews, Polish, ukrainien, Russian, English, Scottish, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and a few jamaicans, just to name a few. The city has about 100,000 citizens and as I said the only differences would be tradition. Although we may be different in color, we still want the same things out of life. As a Latina, we celebrate Three Kings Day, which is a holiday that occurs soon after New Years and is kind of like a second Christmas. We go to the Puerto Rican day parade in the city, and since my husband is African American, there is Black history month activities, as well as the traditional Sunday dinners which would include traditional soul food such as Fried chicken, collard greens, Mac and cheese, etc. My friends have traditions as well. For example, Hanakkah and Rosh Hasannah in the Jewish community, and Cinco de Mayo in Latino communities, and St. Patrick's Day with my Irish friends.
