From an employer perspective, there are likely some good online schools out there, but there are also some really poor ones, and the students that those poorly designed schools produce unfortunately bring down the reputation of all online schools. Programs that specialize in getting students in and out and on their way to a career quickly often fail to produce individuals that are ready for the workforce. I don't know where the University of Phoenix online stands in this spectrum, but keep in mind that you will be fighting against a stigma.

Whoa, if you are gonna be a psychologist you definently do not want to get a degree from the University of Pheonix. You need at least a M.A to get paid decent ( I refer to decent as 60k a year) And if you wanna do clinical work you need a Ph.d. I know because I'm currently achieving by M.A from UCSD. However, if you are taking classes to help fullfil your major requirments at another school it is ok. But if you have a degree from Pheonix you will really have a tough time getting into an M.A program because they judge you by your internship hours, gpa, and the school you went to. hope this helped and just e-mail me if you have any more questions.

I am skeptical about Online Schools. I am not sure how employers would react but if I was an employer I would be a bit skeptical.

I am currently an Phoenix Online student earning my Associates in Healthcare Administration. Phoenix Online is the highest level of accredited online schools you can find. There are various campuses if you would like to do both online and campus if that would suit you better. The various courses have an excellent academic team, which helps with the online experience. Many universities offer classes online as well, including community colleges to offer flexibility. Online classes should not be looked upon as a negative thing: people take these classes for convenience and flexibility with jobs and family life. There are requirements that need to be made when completing assignments, as well as participation. If you wanted to get your degree, I definitely say go for it! Many years ago people looked at other technological tools and laughed, but they are now an undisputed necessity of today. Fifteen years from now, online schools will be a permanent option for all schools to offer students in various universities and schools. Traditional learning versus online learning does not take away what is most important: learning. Good luck with your decision.

I honestly don't recommend online "university" programs. It's not challenging at all, and in the working field you need an outstanding resume of your education experiences. Others who have graduated from real university will have much more greater advantages then you.

"convenience and flexibility with jobs and family life" As Soffiinnee says, is what employers are gonna care less about, you ain't gonna have that "privilege" in the working field.

UOP doesn't offer a Ph.D in psychology. However, they offer other degree programs in psychology. I went to the university and have had no problems defending my degree to employers. It really is a good school and feel that the courses are similar to their counterparts in education.

I received my Masters of Nursing from UOP. My supervisors were supportive of me going to school and liked that I wasn't taking off work to go to traditional classes. Also many of my work projects I would have been doing anyway, I was able to use for school projects also, killed two birds with one stone so to speak.

Within two months of graduating I had two new job offers. I was even on a phone interview in less than an hour of commencement, I was still in my regalia even.

Depends.. If there's another dude with a PhD from a real university going for the same job, they'll choose him over you.
