3M makes those removable hooks that are FABULOUS! Try them for hanging artwork and panels of fabric (to brighten the color of your walls).

Have fun, do what you want. Don't be afraid to use nails or screws into sheetrock to hang heavy items. Your landlord will be greatfull. When you leave it's a simple matter to patch the little hole with some spakel compound. He'll be doing little touch ups any way. Do not use those adheisive things they are a night mare on both panneling and sheetrock. The adheisive peels the veener on the panneling and leaves on sheetrock a visible mark. Be imaginative and have fun.
