No, it does not work like they show it in the movies.

It takes more than a small shard of cartilages piercing the brain in order to cause instant death. In order to kill someone by hitting them in the nose, you would have to break all of the bones between the eyes and cheeks. Even the MMA heavyweights do not have enough strength to do this with a single punch.

This move has been romantisized so much in the movies that it has become an urban legend.

While in THEORY it is possible, in REALITY it is a one in 100,000,000 chance. You probably have a better chance of jumping off the empire state building without a parachute and landing on your feet uninjured, than killing someone by hitting them in the nose with an upward palm.

Unless its an unusual, I mean really UNUSUAL, case you would be correct. Almost any blow to the head could cause death if hard enough or if there was some pre-existing medical condition you didn't know about. But the myth that you can drive the bones in someones nose up through their skull and kill them is crap. The reason is that YOU DON'T HAVE A NOSE BONE. Your nose is cartilage. There is a bone at the top of your nose which forms your nostrils but this only protrudes very slightly and would not be something you could ram through someones skull with your hand and kill them. The nose can be a very sensitive area however and can easily end a fight. but i think you were right in your argument.

I had a 1969 US Secret Service self defence manual and it showed that move. It said that if you were to use it repeatedly it could kill your assailant. It also said that after the first strike, it dazes the assailant and that you must quickly keep doing it till he's down for final count. So I don't understand why some of you are saying that it won't, when in fact, the Secret Service was teaching it in the 1960's. And, BTW, it stressed that this is a move that you should never do in an event where you are experiencing a drunk person being a bad *** idiot, because it says that when you do this, it must be in a life threatening situation. And it also said that if possible, just do it a few times really hard, and then run away as fast as you can. There are a good few simple ways to disable an attacker that works just fine, but when used, do it only to buy you some time to run away. A good strike to the adam's apple should do the trick also. That "Government Issued Book" for the Secret Service showed many things, but like I said, it also stressed that you should do these to buy yourself time to run away. Killing a human with your hands is not as easy as portrait in the movies, but yes, it can be done. But also consider the fact that you must now prove to a judge that it absolutely had to be done, because all judges know of the fact that these moves are mostly designed to buy you time to escape, so now try and prove to a judge that you just had to stand there long enough to strike your assailant enough times to kill him. (See my point??)

I've always heard that an upward nose strike would drive bone into the brain, but i'm not sure how factual that is.

delusion, as a rule. the reason maximum folk cite is that it will "force the nostril bone into the concepts". different than that the nostril is many times cartilage and the nasal passage is particularly long with few openings. Any strike that could desire to force your nostril bone into your concepts might fold your face in a million/2. whether, it is accessible to reason injury to the concepts or cervical vertebrae so severe that death is the end result. The e book "The Punch", it somewhat is actual a real-existence account of a combat that broke out at a basketball pastime, recounts how a guy replaced into struck so no longer uncomplicated in the face that his cranium grew to become somewhat indifferent from his backbone, lots so as that spinal fluid replaced into easily leaking into his mouth. He survived (and remains alive so a approaches as i understand), yet it somewhat is one occasion the place a strike to the face could have led to death.

No...your nose is not a bone...its cartilage to the idiots who think you can shove it in your brain...not possible, its a myth.

The cartilage in your nose will shatter with the amount of force it would take, therefore not being able to penetrate through muscle tissue, nerves, and vanes...along with the bones in your face surrounding the cartilage in the nose.

The amount of force it requires is quite a bit, but I would expect a 200+ lb man or a world class striker, Pro boxer or UFC star could do it at smaller weights. There is a considerable amount of bone to be broken and then displaced a couple inches and the cartlage reinforcing it is pretty flexible.

    Blow To The Nose

  • 1 decade ago

Not really, hit the nose hard but the cause of death would be brain damage.
