How do i go about doing a paternity test AFTER the baby is born?

Contact your local department of human services (DHS)... they can tell you exactly what to do, or will work with the county prosecutor's office to establish an order. Just make sure that when the baby is born you don't sign anything. (Unless you want your name on the birth certificate.) If you're married, the state automatically assumes you are the father. If not, you have the option of signing an afidavit or just waiting for a DNA test. I know if the woman names you as the father you have the option to ask for the DNA test and if you are the father you have to pay for the testing. If not, you don't have to pay for it. You can go online and search friend of the court for your state and they should have better information. Hope this helps! And also - if your name doesn't go on the birth certificate right away, it can be added later after paternity is established.

I know you didn't give any background on the situation, but I am a little sad to see some people pointing out all the money issues as though to discourage you from having the test done. If you want one done, you can contact the child support division of your county, as someone else has said. If it does result in you having to pay child support, it sucks, but at least you will have a relationship with your child.
If you are still with the mother, you should really consider whether or not you WANT to know. If the answer is that your baby isn't yours, do you really want to know? If you love the child in question, you need to consider what it could do to your relationship to the child. I realize that this means that the mother was dishonest with you, but that shouldn't affect your relationship with the child. You don't have to be genetically related to be a good daddy. Just my opinion :)

You can look at this website for more information: www.dnacenter.com.
They can arrange everything for you--- they will set up appointments for the cheek swabs, and you have the option to include the mother or not, it is up to you. They can also arrange for the test to be done right after the baby is born at the hospital.
Everything is confidential, the results can be used in court if they need to be (for child support, birth certificate, SSI, etc) and the lab is fully accredited.
I really hope this info helped! Good luck to you!

My brother is going through the same thing right now. You can go to a doctor and spends a few hundred bucks, or I heard from a few people that if you go to like cvs, they either have one or at least can tell you where to get one...like wal-greens or wherever. You do the test at home and send it in for the results. You still need to pay like $50-100 bucks but it's cheaper than a doctor doing it and just as accurate. Good luck~

Contact your local child support unit. They will be able to point you in the right direction. Also if she has filed for child support and you didn't sign the birth certificate they will court order a dna test. If you are unsure do not sign the birth certificate until you are sure.

eww....you dont have to go through all the courts and stuff. you can just get one done at the hospital when the baby is born! its so simple and easy, you and the mother would have to pay for all of it...but does money really matter when your kid is involved?? nope!
if you're asking cuz the mother isnt agreeing to one....then you REALLY need one....cuz something is up. im getting one, and im sure who the father is....i just think its better so there are no questions in a few years or anything if issues come up. lol i would suggest ALL couples get them, cuz id never want it thrown in my face "oh that kid might not be mine" lol id bug.
GOOD LUCKKKK TO YA

You must go through your county social services. But remember, if you are established as the father, the next step might be you paying child support. I dont know the situation but just wanted to give you heads up.

If you are the father
it would be hard if you do not have
full time custody,
and if you push with a court order then then will hold you to that in court child support and such
same with pushing for visitaion if you push for that then they will come back with a child support order to pay every week
you choice
lawyers cost money too so does the test and you will have to pay for that too
