As far as I know a troll is someone who intentionally posts offensive, aggressive or controversial things online in order to get a reaction from someone. They will either reply to a serious question with something rude or create a thread with something so horrible it's obviously made up. ie) thread: I had sex w/ my uncle & now im preggo!!!1

A troll is someone who posts answers or questions just to get a reaction out of people. It's always negative, and it's a total pain. They undermine what the community is all about.

For example, when you see a question and the answers are well-thought out, not controversial, and they give thumbs-downs to the answers. Another example would be a question and details like one I saw the other day......"I went to a game this weekend without my girlfriend and had sex with two sorority girls and didn't use a condom....should I tell my girlfriend and what are the chances the other girls are pregnant?".......see? It's just to get people all riled up.

Tip in spotting trolls: Look at their profile. If you see low points overall, negative points for the week, and they've only been a member a couple of days.....probably a troll.

From what I understand, a troll is just a person who goes from "forum" (Or site, if you don't know) to forum and gives negative, hateful, cruel responses. For instance, a troll would be the kind of person who responded to this saying something like "wow, you are a stupid, ignorant loser." I may be wrong with the category you are refering to that uses the word "troll," but in online situations this is the general one.

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

someone who (in the case of Yahoo Answers) asks stupid questions or completely made up questions just to get a rise out of people and then persists in asking the same questions over and over because they have nothing better to do, presumably.
