The governor of Texas.... but for those of you who don't live in Texas, I'll let you in on a secret. The governor's office in this state is less powerful than the Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, the State Treasurer, and even the Railroad Commissioner. The governor has been a figure head since the 1940's when a governor died in office and his wife took the office.... legislation was enacted to weaken the executive branch. A Texas governor's major powers is the veto and the power to call a emergency session of the legislature... other than that his duties are ceremonial.

Beyond all the above he was a bad Governor and failed businessman. He ran a few dif companies into the ground, with all of daddies resources he still couldnt find oil in Texas. What made anyone think after all that he could be president i have no idea.

Only one: Governor of Texas. Now he did help out in his father's administration. That was how he met Karl Rove. What did he do in the white house back then? Hatchet man. Went to John Sununu to tell him he was fired after it came out he was using the Presidential helicopter for personal reasons.

He was Governor of Texas, a state that pretty much takes care of itself and has long been considered to be 'recession proof' or at least as recession proof as you can get.

Hell, Rick Perry just tries to stay out of the way as often as possible and it works wonders for him....
