It was an original song done by the Buffalo Springfield group, which was the first group that Neil Young and Steven Stills were in together. It was used in 'Forrest Gump', but it was a famous protest song in the late sixties, which was # 1 for about 6 weeks.

It is not from a movie or tv show. The song was written by Steven Stills, reportedly in reaction to escalating unrest between law enforcement and young club goers relating to the closing of Pandora's Box, a club on West Hollywood, California's Sunset Strip.
