A-10C Questionj?
I used to work A-10s in the 1990s. It was obviously the older model.
What I was wondering was what is the difference between working the 2 models? I used to work ECM, so how is that tied into the system now? Is it like the F-16, or is it still mostly it's own set of systems, like in the As?
What is different in the cockpit? I had heard they swapped out the throttle quad.
Actually, anything anyone could tell me would be great. But, like I said, I worked ECM, with the ALR-69, the ALE-40, and either an ALQ-131 Block 2 or an ALQ-184, and yes, I worked flightline and backshop on all of those systems at some point.
Oh, and I don't mean to sound like a ****, but unless you have sat in the cockpit and started the APU, which I have done too many times to count on the As, you most likely cannot tell me anything I haven't already read on the internet.
No, I am not looking at classified information. I am looking for things like how the cockpit is different in the layout, if the RWR displayed was moved, if the thottle quad was changed out, like I had heard it was, even something like if the checklist was changed for running up the APU.
As for the for 1 or 2, actually, they have changed the designation for the upgraded A-10s. The integrated upgraded A-10s are now A-10Cs. Check the USAF website. You might be even more interested in how your old birds have changed than I am being as most expediters I knew were former crew chiefs. I don't think the plane you chiefed is the same bird anymore.
I will admit that I am interested in the engines. Did they change out the TF-34s, or did they improve the performance? I know that we had problems in the mid 1990s in Kuwait in the summer because of the high temps and low humidity making the engine not perform well. Did they do something the with bypass ratio? 85% makes for good loiter time in Europe and Korea, where they were designed to fight, but makes problems for high temp/low humidity areas, like the Middle East.

The A-10 kept it's A-10a desination. There is no new model called the C. Before I retired the A-10 was going to get bigger engines, At the time the money was on hold. If they have started to upgrade on the A10 the Quads might be replaced. Some Electronics systems upgraded for sure.

they are retraining to work on the a10 c models there are differences thats all i will say here...
