Website where you can check fuel efficiency of classic cars?

I can find fuel efficiency for cars late 90's to present, but "classic" cars (early 90's and earlier) do not have information on the web that I can find.

one car in particular that I am about to buy, a 1985 BMW 2002....I would love to know the fuel efficiency.

    Fueleconomy.gov currently seems to go back to 1984, but the ratings were created starting in about 1976 or something like that. There's no way you can go back before that, because nobody generated the data.
