    A battery can corrode if

    1: Exposed to a different metal and if there is electricity going from one metal to the another.

    2: Humidity and Electricity. Let says if your battery is cold and you use it right away on your device, humidity is created because of the sudden change of temperature ( battery gets hot when used ) and corrosion will happen in your device.
