Which is better: Dell or HP?
I'm starting college next year and need a laptop computer and was wondering what the public thinks. Dell has a deal with my university so I can get a discount on buying if I go with them but they have a bad customer-service reputation. :S
Which is better for an English major (with a writing minor), if specifics matter?

I would highly treccomend Dell. I currently have a Dell, and once I dropped it and the screen broke, and Dell sent a guy to my house in rural Maine, to fix it for free, but I had the accidental breakeage/theft plan, and also the 4 year warranty. The only really big problem I have ever noticed with Dell is their prices are a bit higher than their competitors, but with the discount that is not a problem for you. Also, Dell has been getting bad reviews lately, but I have always been a Dell person, and they have always come through for me. One last thing is that even though Dell's customer service supposedly "sucks" HP was actually rated last by pc world magazine is customer service, with Dell in second place, Toshiba in second and Macs in first. (the only reason Macsw customer service is in first is that Mac makes it purposely that you cannot fix your own computer yourself forcing you to go to them and fork over more money, its why mac hasn't gone out of business yet.)

If you can get a discount for Dell, then yea it's good. But there are also a bunch of online deals out there:

HP has some really nice looking laptops though, like this one:

seriously they are kind of both as good as each other... but atleast dell makes serious computers too, it's not like your going to be playing hardcore games on your laptop so i reccomend dell for the discount and they are perfect for work and stuff like that, 2gb ram 80-180gb harddrive 20" screen windows vista ...the one that comes with all the microsoft works programs and ****...
allso i have herd alot of good things about the mac book pro for things like this but personaly i hate macs.
so yeah GO DELL ...best advice i can give you. well you could build your own pc but im not going to get into that...
