Virus help?

So it started a couple days ago with not being able to do Google searches, the google page would come up, but as soon as you tried to search you got the Can't display the page, page.

Now I can't access Google at all, and its gotten worse I can't access a lot of site, shutterfly, canidae, virus scanning related sites.

I've multiple virus scanners, mutiple spyware removers, not a single one has found anything. I did a search on all of my running processes, they are all in the correct spots. I've tried doing a system restore twice.

It all started the same day my pc had been rebooted by automatic updates. I've turned off auto updates now as well.

What else can I do I'm starting to pull my hair out.

I also went through the Add/Remove programs and cleaned out some things that didn't need to be there. However everything there has been there forever.

Update:

No, I am not working offline. Yes the pc has been restarted umpteen times. And I do have Firefox. Neither IE nor Firefox will work correctly.

Update 2:

I usually don't have auto updates on. They were on when I got the pc, and I kept forgetting to shut them off.

Update 3:

I usually don't have auto updates on. They were on when I got the pc, and I kept forgetting to shut them off.

Update 4:

I do have AVG. It runs daily, and I've manually run it several times today as well.

Have you tried running SuperAntiSpyware in safe mode?

    http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefr... [free home edition]

While in safe mode, you may also want to have a look at your start up items by using msconfig.

    http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Be careful with the items you uncheck, you can have a look here to see if they are necessary

    http://www.greatis.com/appdata/index.html

You should also have a look at your IE Add-ons while in safe mode.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_a...

Disable any you do not use.

After you reboot back to normal mode, download and install ccleaner to fix any registry problems and clean up old temp files.

Try registry mechanic from Pc Tools.

also.. make sure ur not working offline O.o file > work online if its internet explorer etc.

    sounds like its just that.

but yeah, check your registry. if it keeps happening then download Mozilla Firefox from another computer and install it on urs, its a much safer and generally more solid browser to use.

also download AVG free edition and install that on there too, avg in my opinion is the best anti virus program cause it is SO light, unlike Norton which does so many needless processes its doing more harm than good most of the time.

    goodluck

Did you check your HOSTS file?

Certain malware has been known to modify your Windows HOSTS file to redirect you to their own servers or block access to a web-site totally.. Perhaps this will help.

First check your HOSTS file located at:

    Vista & XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

    Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

    Win 98/ME = C:\WINDOWS

Be sure and check-mark "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and uncheck-mark "Hide Protected Operating System Files" in your Folder Options first.

Open HOSTS with notepad. A 'standard" MS HOSTS file will look like this:

    # Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

    #

    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

    #

    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

    # space.

    #

    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a "#" symbol.

    #

    # For example:

    #

    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    #

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    ____________________________________________

There should be no entries or IP addresses on the lines below "127.0.0.1 localhost". If there are other entries like Google, delete them, close notepad, and answer 'Yes" if prompted.

I never turn on automatic updates why you do that

    Maybe restart your computer completely?
