My speedometer went crazy yesterday in my 97 Honda...0-60 back and forth ...?
a few minutes later the check engine light came on...any clues what it could be. Just before it happened, I had driven about 120 miles... and just prior a large truck that was smoking really bad had just cut in front of me any ideas ? Is it safe to drive ?
Also, I just had all the belts changed, including timing belt, waterpump, seals, tune up, battery cables, as the car has 110k miles on it now and I want it to last forever :-)

It is probably a speedometer gear that is messed up or the gauge. I doubt that truck that cut in front of you had anything to do with your problem. I would take your car to autozone and have them hook up their scanner to your car to figure out why the check engine light is on.

Sounds to me like the speedometer unit in the dashboard has developed bearing problems, or the cable leading from the transmission connection to the back of the instrument in the dash has gotten kinked somehow while you were making your trip. Wierd!

Check the speedometer cable ends for tightness. If they are tight then remove the cable & oil it, that should take of the problem if you have a mechanical drive unit. If you have a computer unit then take it in & put on scanner.
