What Leads to High Divorce Rates in Today's Society?

There are several reasons for divorce in today's society.

The decreasing conform to religious values amongst some cultures; some people do not view marriage as a necessity in the eyes god.

Divorce is becoming more socially acceptable; say 50 years ago, it was frowned upon and was seen as a sin, this also relates to lack of religious values.

Laws have made it easier to get divorced and much cheaper.

Reconstituted families (re-marriages) are becoming more popular. Some people see this as an easy reason to get divorced, it's argued that marriage is a case of trial and error as to finding the right person to commit to.

Feminists would argue that women are becoming more independent in today's society. Instead of staying at home carrying out traditional gender roles such as housework and childcare, they are wanting to pursue careers and no longer want to be tied down by a marriage.

Of course, less sociological reasons exist such as adultery, finances and the simple reason of people no longer wanting to be together.

My guess is if it wasn't for religious fear, that the divorce rate would have always been this high in America.

These days most people don't think they will go to hell for getting divorced, so when they become unhappy it is okay to get out and better themselves.

Personally, I think marriage itself has become a laughing joke. Years ago, marriage was something that was considered sacred and divorce was something that was highly frowned upon and even considered shameful.

Now in today's world, people get married for whatever reason: Just because they can, to claim free benefits, even something as childish as to get back at somebody they despise. So should it come to any surprise when divorce rates go up?

The number one cause for divorce in today's society is disagreements concerning financial decisions and finances.

I believe another cause is stress from outside problems like work. Closely followed by lack of addequate communication skills when resolving everyday problems.

Whether we want to or not, governments force us to constantly earn and pay money. That kind of constant stress takes a heavy toll on us, and the results can be seen in higher than natural divorce rates and homicide rates.

    Pressure to marry for one.

A tendency to skip over determining if you can actually live with someone, rather than just love them (I suspect because that stage is almost always skipped in movies).

Apparently, 90% of all divorces in the US have to do with money.
