The make/model match up are:
Lincoln Town Car
Mercury Grand Marquis
Ford Crown Victoria
They do share a common platform (called the Panther, an internal Ford Motor Company designation) as large, RWD passenger cars and are assembled at the same plant (St Thomas, Ontario, or STAP in Ford-speak). but there are some differences.
The Mercury and Ford models are much identical mechanically, just some trim differences and the badge. Also, the Crown Victoria is now for the most part only sold to fleet buyers, such as government agencies and rental car agencies - they're the most popular model for police departments. The Grand Marquis is still sold through retail dealers.
The Town Car is a somewhat larger platform, a bit bigger than the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis cars, and a step up in terms of market from the Mercury and Ford. Being a luxury car, the TC will have a lot of goodies/gadgets, a fancier interior, etc. It's equivalent to a Cadillac, and it's a popular car for limo applications and you'll see them a lot at airports.
They're relatively old designs but are very profitable for Ford.

The Ford Crown Vic is the base, The mercury Marq is upscaled like a buick, then the Lincoln Town Car is like a Caddilac.

Not really it. They have three stages
Ford Crown Victoria
Mercury Grand Marquis
Lincoln Town Car
The Town Car is best in performance and luxury the Mercury is second and the Ford is not luxurious but it does perform well.

the grand marquis and the crown vic are one in the same, save the trim package - i.e. lights and chrome. the lincoln is a different animal. whereas the crown vic and mercury are rear wheel drive, the continental is front wheel and typically has a better luxury package- air bag suspension, adustable ride controls- the works.
