Cayenne peppers?

I bought a little pepper plant two weeks ago. The first time Ive ever tried to grow a pepper plant. I'm surprized to find it's got a few peppers on it now but I don't know how they are used. are they usually dried before using? how is that done? how hot are these babies gonna be? Got a good recipe?

The peppers usually are not harvested until late summer, but you can pick them when they are still green and about 4+ inches. When they are mature, they will be bright red. Use gloves, they are hot!

You can use fresh peppers in a salsa or stir fry. Cayenne is also used in Cajun cooking. They are pretty versatile. You can also pickle them. If you want to dry them, you can use a food dehydrator or you can put them in the oven on the lowest setting.

As far as heat goes, cayenne is rated 7 on the Scoville Scale. In comparison, bell peppers are a 0 and habanero is a 9-10.
