smart people:are they really smart?

Is it when you are smart or more philosophical you tend to know more about the world than the average people. I mean they're understanding about the way things are going, are more open, critical and logical. Shouldn't they be more understanding when people of such limited knowledge or logic commit mistakes due to their limitations? For instance a philosophy teacher couldn't just apply the thoughts he/she is trying to teach his/her students. Of course i don't mean that because they're smart then they are not allowed to do such poor judgment. It's just that they are more equipped to understand things.

Update:

I'm not basically pertaining to a philosophy teacher nor a genius. Simply to someone more philosophical.

People are gifted with certain things, but in order to make it balanced, there are also shortcomings of the person. The smartest person may be silly in some way; the silliest person may be smart some way.

If you are smart, you're right, you would try to have patience and forgive people who don't seem very bright. However, some people are dangerous and they need to be stopped, before they hurt themselves or someone else.

Also, while you should not treat someone who has not got the same cognitive abilities as you have poorly, you can pick on them.

I'll bet the philosophy teacher you're talking about goes homes and drinks rum every night, while she giggles hysterically over really stupid papers.

My first tendency is to jump all over you, but in fact, you're making a good point.

I'm quite smart, and yes, I do find it difficult to remember to be patient with people who are not. I'd say it's my biggest character flaw. Now, it's largely because people who are not smart often go out of their way to be annoying to people who are smart - a little "give" from the not-so-smart people would be nice. But that simply might be too much to ask of them.

It is often a very difficult world for smart people. We're outnumbered, disrespected, and constantly challenged by people who can barely put two words together. We (*I*)could stand to learn more patience, but it'd sure be nice if we got a little bit of recognition for the patience we're already showing.

"For instance a philosophy teacher couldn't just apply the thoughts he/she is trying to teach his/her students. "

From my experience, not all philosophy teachers are "smart". A degree does not make one intelligent.

Frankly, I think you give most people less credit than is their due.

Most people are not limited intellectually. They are limited emotionally. They choose not to think. There is a difference between that and not being capable of it.

God thinks I am smart. I mean come on.......He is only interested in what I have to write, and listen when I talk.

    I feel special.

    haha
