If a man was never named on the birth certificate, then what is the procedure for getting him to pay child support.

You would need to prove that he is indeed the father, without a shadow of a doubt. This would involve a court battle to force him to take a paternity test, at your expense. The results can be challanged by any lawyer who knows anything about the tests.

Once the paternity is established, then there will be th efight to get child support.

Then you would have to hope that the court will grant back support, and not call you a fool for waiting. In general though, they will not grant back support without a really good reason.

In CA they will not do back support. You will be required to prove to the judge that the man you named as the father really is the father. They will contact this man & he can either just agree that he is dad or they will require a DNA test. Once DNA comes back or he just agrees, then you start getting your support from that day on.

There has to be some proof that he is the actual father, as in a blood and/or DNA test. There is no back child support.
