Doctor Who fans. ? about Ms. Piper and Ms. Sladen.?

Has there ever been an interview with Elisabeth Sladen "Sarah" & Billie Piper "Rose" (TV or written) where they discuss being the star of the show but having to step aside as a new comer (Tom Baker & David Tennant) just step in and not only become the lead but now the show focus on them? If so how could I get a copy?

I read once where Tom Baker, in one of the few times he seem thankful, stated how well Ms. Sladen had welcomed him and treated him so good helping him work his way on to the show.

Has Mr. Tennant ever said the same about Ms. Piper? I seen some of his interviews and that thing on the DVDs that he did on himself but unless I missed it I don't remember him ever thinking Ms. Piper for helping him.

Update:

1st Ms. Piper was a star of the show. She was choosen due to her "Pop Star" status to bring in younger viewers so unlike other companions Ms. Piper was one of 2 stars of the show.

2nd I was not asking in term of the characters but in term of human actors.

3rd Which lead to another question. Why do some people feel the ned to explain a question to the asker rather than just answering the question? Especially when 99% of the time the explanation is not correct. The question may not make sense to you or you may feel it is not base on fact. That's okay. He may to the asker. If you can not asker the question or do not want to due to the question then move on to the next one. The asker knows what he/she is looking for. Don't try to turn someone else question into your own.

Yes, there are "making of" documentaries on the DVDs of "Robot" (Tom Bakers first story) and "The Hand of Fear" (Elizabeth Sladen's last) which discuss at some length how Sladen and Baker related to each other on and off screen, and how their relationship differed from the Sladen / Pertwee one.

I also seem to remember Billie Piper discussing her reaction to Tennant replacing Ecclestone in the episode of Doctor Who Confidential that accompanied "The Christmas Invasion" (not sure if that's been released in full), and also a bit more briefly in the featurette about "The Christmas Invasion" in the series 1 boxed set. David Tennant also talks about Billie Piper in these, in addition to his video diary in the series 2 boxed set.

The Doctor has always been the focus of the show! The Companions are tagalongs; some have been more popular than others, but they are sidekicks, not stars. Fans have their favorites, but I can't picture anyone putting more emphasis on the Companion.

Tom Baker is an amazing man. I've been fortunate enough to meet him a number of times and actually spend time chatting. I've never known him to not be thankful. After all, by the time his seven years of episodes were shown here, they had moved on to another Doctor. He admitted that he was surprised by the fans though he certainly shouldn't be. We asked him why he stepped down as Doctor, and he said that it was time for others to have fun!

Believe me, at conventions, it's bigger news when an actor who portrayed the Doctor is in attendance than if a former Companion is. Elisabeth Sladen apparently was THE most popular Companion from the response at the most recent con I attended.

I still don't understand about stepping aside for a newcomer or "thanking (someone) for helping him". As I said before: The Doctor has always been the focus of the series~through all of his regenerations. He's even traveled solo.

I have to admit that I found it weird to give a former Companion/actress her own series even though. It simply doesn't "ring true" to this phenomenal, long-lived series.

I have to say, you confused me a bit with your question… I thought to myself, when were they ever the “stars” of the show? MystMoonstruck said it better then I could ever say it. The companions were never the stars of the show. It always was, is and will be about the Doctor.
