I would be curious to know what the previous poster's definition of "overrated" is, because winning the UEFA cup with a Swedish club, or the Serie A title and Cup double with Lazio (not just the Italian Cup, as stated by a previous poster - see the 2000 season), are no small tasks. In fact, I think Man City was the first club team he failed to win a trophy at, and if you expected City to win anything after last year's relegation struggles, then you're the most optimistic person in all of Manchester.
As for whether or not he's a good choice, well, who was last Mexican National coach with his track record and pedigree? I know Borgetti and Saucedo have been very critical of the idea of a coach who doesn't speak Spanish, but football has a long history of players and coaches overcoming language barriers and achieving great success. It seems ridiculous that people would prefer to bring Javier Aguirre back, when his tenure was marked by the most embarrassing loss in Mexican Soccer history - an elimination round loss at the hands of The United States of America at the 2002 World Cup. If the players would prefer a coach who couldn't help them beat a side with less than a handful of true world class players, perhaps the team is a lost cause.
Scolari may have been a better choice, but does anyone really think a coach that has Chelsea, the England FA and just about every other football organization in the world chasing him to coach their team, would choose the Mexican national job? Hey, while we're living in a dream world, maybe they should have talked to Mourinho before he signed with Inter? And while we're at it, is Alex Ferguson really happy at Man Utd? As far as practical choices go, no one else is close to Eriksson as a coach.
Eriksson will bring professionalism and experience to the team, and most importantly, a different style - giving Mexico the opportunity to beat teams in more than one way, instead of holding on to the hope that some day, short, conservative ground passes will get them past the first knockout stage. I think the entire continent, not just Mexico, should be ecstatic the CONCACAF region finally landed a high-profile, first-class coach. Even if he doesn't take them to great heights, I think his techniques and tactics will have a lasting positive impact on Mexican soccer.

Great move for both Mexico and Sven
I can't remember a day where there was so much buzz over a coach coming to any Concacaf Team
Sven is a great coach who will apply a great style in Mexico with that said it's up to the players now we could only hope that it will turn out great but we have to wait and see

Even though as a United States supporter, there's nothing I want more for Mexico to fall apart, I feel for your team right now. Sven finds a way to make horrible managerial decisions on an almost hourly basis. He's great at club level as a sort of general manager bringing in the right talent. But he's never been able to make that talent mesh right even with clubs. And he will make one ****-up substitituion at least every match and wreck things.

i think that erriksonn needs to bring us togrther. the mexican national team has some of the best players of the words that can easily beat any team in europe, but with teamwork. if errikasson makes mexico play in a style where we have fundemental position and with teamwork, we mexicans could be giants. something else that erriksson will bring us os the europeamn soccer style. with that style, mexico could really make a big win in the world cup. if errikksom could do this, he will be the best choice for mexico

For Sven, its a win-win situation. If Mexico do not do well, then they were always a bad team. Not Sven fault. and if Mexico do well, Sven will be hailed as a saviour. Either way, Sven is smart enough to take a job nobody else wants.
As for the Mexican Football Association, they will be cheered for taking such a extraordinary decision of appointing a unfamiliar manager.
Sven being a good choice? Well he is a tried and tested experienced manager at both club and national level. Why not? He just might do a better job then Sanchez...

sven is a good manager. mexico wont win anything, but at least they'll qualify, unlike england. i think we all secretly miss sven now.

No- he is the most over-rated manager in the world. He has never achieved anything, an Italian cup with Lazio aside (league titles in Sweden don't count). He is total rubbish- messed up the best England side in history.
8 votes against? You dumb bastrds, what i am saying is absolute fact. He is ****!!!
