naval academy chances?

First of all I' am going to be a Sophomore this upcoming year. My goals are to graduate high school, and go to the U.S. Naval Academy. My freshman year I ended out with a 3.3 GPA but usually it is between a 3.5-3.6. I ran cross country and track during the school year. I'm in JROTC and I participated on raider, drill and, saber team. I got ribbons for good uniform inspections, physical fitness, community service, academics, and good conduct. This year I also joined the US naval sea cadet corps and I plan on going to recruit training this summer. I do volunteer service at my church, and with the lions club, I also try to be a leader in certian areas of my church. So my actual question is; "does it sound like I'm on my way to the academy or do I have more work to do?"

Sounds like a well rounded schedule. Make sure that you keep your grades up and don't let them suffer at the hands of doing all the extra curricular activities.

Be sure to be well informed of the process for applying. You can contact the academy and request to speak with some of the midshipmen where you can ask them how they did in preparing for the Academy.

You should also keep your options open with ROTC. It gets you the same job as the Academy without the rigors of midn life.

Looks pretty good. You might want to work on the grades & keep them even higher. Lots of kids are getting over 4.0 with AP classes. Any sports or school clubs? Worth a thought. You could do a sport or club in place of one of your volunteer activities. The more well rounded you are, the better.

Good Luck. Or should I say, "Fair winds and following seas?"

You can't be in any of the service academies let alone the military if you are not a US Citizen. Otherwise the rest is awesome.

Bring the GPA up. you want it as close to 4.0 as possible. make sure you are taking Calc, and Physics and as many AP/Honors courses are your school offers.

Add some leadership roles..Class officer, Club officer, that sort of thing.

Lol, today i was just talking to this 2nd LT who just graduated from Annapolis last week. He was one out of nine valedictorian from my school, was not in MCJROTC at our school, he participated in about 5 clubs, and was in one of the best high school track and field team in CA. We talk to him about getting into Annapolis and he said just try to fill your application with as many crap as possible. They didn't even care he was a valedictorian.

They don't accept just brains, you have to be well know in your school, participate in many activities, have a good physical feature, and a moral personality.

And height doesn't matter. He was about 4'11" his freshmen year in high school, and was 5'11" by senior year.

Source(s): Wow, guess what they say is true, MCJROTC only give ribbons for drill team, color guard, grades, 10 hours community serive, shooting, PFT, band, while other JROTC give those and for every camp you went to, drill competition went to, every 5 hours community servie, inspection, time you show up to class, bullet shot, and any crap i can think of.

Compare yourself to the class profile. It looks good so far. Be an entrepreneur. Start some sort of small business or charity that's needed in your neighborhood.

Go for it, but as another poster here said, keep other options open like NROTC. You have better credentials than I did and I made it. Don't give up the ship and fight her til she sinks!!!
