how do I get rid of web sites that have apparently downloaded on my computer?
First, I have a balloon that keeps coming up saying there may be spyware on my computer. If I click on the balloon it takes me to a web site wanting me to download or buy their product. I have Ad-aware and avast and this isn't from either of these. The second problem has to do with searching the Internet. We search on yahoo and a list of sites comes up, we click on one and it opens another search page for a different site that's not yahoo. I have deleted cookies, run both the ad-aware and avast and gone under internet settings but can't find anything. The third problem I have now is that when we run avast it brings up a list of files that it's unable to scan. For a while we got warnings saying there was a trojan but if we clicked it took us to a web site wanting to sell us their product. We don't get those anymore. I also can't do a system restore for some reason. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Check your add/remove programs and see if anything is there that shouldn't be. Go to start...run...type msconfig, click OK, and then on the startup tab. You may need to research what all the programs are in there, but it may be one of them starting up each time your computer starts up. Short of that, try Spybot and a Registry Cleaner.

Click start, right click on my computer, click properties, go to system restore and disable it.Restart your computer, press F8 when the screen comes on, it should have you press F8 again.Press enter, when the screen comes up, scroll to safe mode and hit enter.Click yes when it asks and it will start in safe mode.Run a scan with avast then and it will be able to scan those files.
