What if McCain was for a quick and responsible exit from Iraq?
Would he just be running away with this election?
I just ask because he comes off as a moderate Republican with an eye on curbing senseless spending which is nice to hear, but this war thing really seems to make him unappealing to independents who disagree with the war.

If there is anyone who hates war, it is someone who has participated in one.
However McCain will not get us out so quickly Iraq degenerates into Civil War, and the Taliban or of similar pursuasion take over. We would just have to go back in and straighten out the mess again, and it probably would not be as quick and easy as the first time. If Iraq falls apart, Iran is right there to take over. You know how much they like us, and they are well equipped with the latest Russian airplanes, tanks, etc. Not an easy victory.
Robert Kennedy said " 15% of the people are against everything, all the time" Unfortunately when it come to war it is a very vocal 15%.

Not a chance. The Republican party is so damaged right now, that he and anyone running for congress are going to have an uphill battle no matter what their stances.
It's not just Iraq. It's their fiscal irresponsibility, their immoral behavior, their politics of personal destruction. They're beat down and nothing short of a miracle is going to change that.

He IS for that! Haven't you been paying attention?
That is exactly what he's been saying.
And that is exactly why he supported the surge when it was unpopular.
Now it is working and things have shown a remarkable turnaround.
We will be able to bring home large numbers of troops this Fall, likely before the election and keep bringing them home.
UNLESS Obama gets elected and screws everything up.
Or the Democrats in Congress screw it up which they keep trying to do.
By this Fall, the Iraqis will be winning their OWN war.
And McCain will win the election.

Honestly, that's Obama's football. I doubt he would gain any of Obama's voters and he would only stand to lose the 20-25% of American's who still think the war is a good thing. His campaign would just implode.

That policy is a contradiction of terms. "Quick" is out of the question if we are to be "responsible."
McCain's position on this war is one of the reasons I can force myself to overlook some of his other positions on different issues - illegal immigration and global warming, for instance.
If he were to re-neg on our commitments to the Iraqi people who have supported our efforts and - cut and run - he might as well be Obama's running mate.

McCain is for a quick and RESPONSIBLE exit..he just doesn't think we should give victory to our enemy.
no, he wouldn't be running away with this election since they have decided that Obama is more god than man.

No, he's still be hard pressed to run away from Bush, the economy, his record, his age, and the distrust of traditional conservatives.

No.
But that's a much better start than pledging billions of dollars for an undetermined length of time like he's already done...

He is too smart to go that route, he goes to Iraq ALOT! He knows were making improvements and KNOWS that the Iraqi people don't want us to leave cause we are protecting them from EVIL! Obama has not been to Iraq in over 2 years!
