Can you imagine one day that an american president could be convicted and jailed for crimes?

done while in office that were either uncovered while he was in office or after he left office?

It seems in the USA there is this unwillingness to really come down hard on a president that has committed gross infractions and abuse of his office.

Why do you think that is?

Nixon was mentioned by some, however, he resigned and received a pardon from his successor Gerald Ford (an act which likely cost him the '76 election). He never served jail time. I don't think most Americans want to see a former president in jail. They think resignation and living in disgrace for the rest of their lives in punishment enough. So no, I don't think we'll ever seen a president go to jail.

You will need to define what you mean by gross infractions and abuse of office. We haven't had any Joe Stalins yet.

I am not sure unless he or she actually killed someone personally. I seriously doubt that another country would invade and occupy ours then try and convict our President for war crimes.

I dont think that will happen. Even if it does it will be a longer process compared for rest of the citizens and by that time he/she will be ex-president

It won't happen. Clinton was pretty blatant with the perjury and still got off scot-free. I mean, seriously, his defense was "it all depends on what your definition of is is." If I've ever seen a "wookie" defense, that was it.
