Do you think our society could benefit from the laws of the middle east?

Their laws although pretty crude seem to be effective You steal , you get a hand cut off, etc. It would certainly cut down on prison population, taxes, etc.

Update:

Chippy...Do you believe rehabilitaion works?

Update 2:

Bluto...which is more barbaric.. Getting lashes for back talking your husband or letting a 2 x sex offender out of prison?

    Good Question,

Well their laws can be very draconian in certain aspects and certainly stifling. Public Beheadings, and such. I guess it depends on what middle eastern laws you are speaking of.

Do you mean Sharia Law? As interpreted by say the Taliban?

We have a very open and free society in this country. People have freedom of religeon, freedom of speech, freedom to dress anyway they want, and wear their hair anyway they want. We enjoy the freedom to move across this country at will, and take or leave employment as we see fit.

A lot of other countries out there have laws that govern these things and under their laws their security forces have a broad range of powers that are considered illegal here. Warrants? Probable Cause? Mirada rights......dont always exist. We take these things for granted here.

How about being aressted at a mall because someone thinks you dress too provacatively or being thrown in a cell for speaking against the state religeon or govenment.

Certain crimes do deserve severe punishment. here in the States we struggle with the State Sponsored Execution of many criminals, so we house them in the prison system. Which is more humane? Keeping a man in a cage for life...or a swift painless execution? I am not sure.

However, stifling enterprise, and individual creativity and freedom in the name of the law is not a good thing either.

I am not a legal scholar and hardly competent the debate the fine points of this issue. I am not in a position to condemn another countries legal system either. I was not raised there, and I am not aware of the challenges faced by the people of an Islamic nation whichever one it is.

The greatest thing about this country is our multicultural diversity. People from all over this planet live here. We have a lot of strife from this but overall our culture is strengthened by it. Look at the arts and entertainment we have in this country influenced by every part of the globe. What is true American Cuisine? It all came from other countries. In an American company you will find scientists and engineers from all different places working together and sharing ideas. This is our strength.

Any laws that would stifle that would be bad for us. Its just not who we are. When I visit another country I go online study their laws and culkture and I respect that when there and try to learnw hat I can. I expect others to do the same when they visit my country also. So I'll would say I'll keep our laws like they are.

A woman caught flirting can be chained up and drowned in the family swimming pool by her own father, women can be stoned to death in publich for displaying an ankle...

Women are not allowed to drive or to own property, or to be in the company of any male except a relative...

    Sounds pretty cool, huh?

oh you mean the one where raping your wife and beating her is legal?

we did away with those barbaric laws decades ago, and at least when we allowed wife beating for disobedience we had regulations on the manner in which you were allowed to do it.

you do raise an important point- namely that the prison system is becoming overwhelmed and does need reform.

  • No, even Texas would not allow Beheadings and maiming.

Their entire economy is based upon Slavery that their vast prison systems generate. They call it Inmate Labor.

And headless, handless slaves do not work as efficiently as complete ones do.

As long as you are not:

    1. A non-muslim

    2. A woman

    3. A homosexual.

    4. In love with someone 'unapproved'.

Then I'm sure you'll love it.

Why not go by God's standards and be fininshed with it?

  • 1 decade ago

yeah. i think that is how people should be punished.

but i dont believe in forgiving everyone so that they can roam free to commit the same crimes against others.

I love Shariah laws or God's laws.

It is proven that most Muslim countries have lowest crime rates in the world, especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
