Moving to CO this fall: no car? Is a commute logical?
I am moving to Colorado in September for school. My school is in Lakewood, but my roommate's school is in Boulder. I am considering living somewhere like Westminster, central between Denver and Boulder. Neither of us will have cars for a little while, is this a logical plan? Are the bus systems reliable enough to commute 20 minutes or so (regular driving) everyday to Lakewood and Boulder? Any knowledgeable input is greatly appreciated!!!

I would recommend living in downtown Denver. This is the hub for most of the transportation routes. There is a frequent service to Boulder up to midnight. The bus will leave you right at the U of Colorado. Also, Denver has great social and night life for two young people. The LoDo district has experienced an explosion of new condos, restaurants and galleries. There are also a couple of excellent bike paths, making it easy to get around the city. Westminster is really just a suburb. You'll feel trapped there without a car.
Also, the U of Colorado gives students' a bus pass as part of your student fees. So, the buses in the entire Denver metro area are 'free'.

not really denver is huge and the buses have a bad habit of not running after certain times. also boulder and lakewood are far apart and westminister although it is in the middle is simply not close enough to either place. here a car is a necissity and you will need one unless you live right down the block from everything. i live in broomfield and the closest thing to me is a safeway, thats pretty much the only thing that is close actually. i have never tried to rrely on the bus because it is damn hard to figure out, there are like 50 different routes and you almost always have to find another bus. also im not completly sure the denver bus system and boulder bus systems connect.

The RTD system does a good job of running the buses all over the front range area. They usually start early morning until about 1am. If you can find housing near hwy 36 in westminster, there are many routes you can take to and from your destination. Some require transferring to a different bus in order to reach your destination. Just prepare to get up earlier and get your sleep on the bus. You can check out the RTD system by typing that in yahoo search.

Public transport in Denver is HORRIBLE!!! While the buses are reliable in that they are there on time, there's consistently like an hour between buses and your likely to have to take 2-3 different buses to get where you wanna go.
You won't like it, I promise. Find a new roommate
