Any hints on how to clean down into the hole of a spark plug.?

I dont have the benefit of an air compressor, but I need a clean plug hole prior to torquing iridium plugs. Any suggestions on cleaning down there without getting crap into the cylinders? Thanks

take out the plug then stuff a rag into the plug hole use your hand to get the heavy stuff around the rag being careful not to get to much on the rag then use gas (and another rag)around the hole and wipe the rest of the gunk away

then pull out the rag in a fast motion to bring any dirt out that may have been resting on it with the rag

then install the new plug and move onto the next

    goodluck

pull the plugs, plug the old spark plugs into the wires and rest them against a metal part of the engine. Then crank the engine over to blow out the plug holes. The reason to install the old pluds is you can damage the electronic ign system if you crank it with an open secodary circut. Why are you wasting $ on iridium plugs? Modern day FI vehicals with plane old champions go 60k without a hitch, why spend $5+ on a spark plug? They don't get you better milage, if thet did I'd think the OEM would have installed them from the factory.

You can remove the valve covers to get better access if that is in the way.

Put back the spark plug and turn it in for few turns (by hand) and then clean out the hole using some sort of brush (you can get bottle cleaners at the supermarket) and clean it out and vacuum out the crude.

You can even break off the ceramic part of the spark plug (off the old plug) so you can better access the lower parts.

    Good Luck...

Any "crap" you get into the cylinder won't matter much, dirt and bits and pieces of things go thru all the time, so once it starts running, it'll blow any small pieces of junk that fall down in there. You can also rig up a small vacuum, with the small keyboard pickup tube, if you want to be anal and worry about it that much. Suck the area while you're cleaning the hole with a small brass tubing brush ( hardware store item ). That should do it.
