You cant reintstall xp without a cd and you wont be able to reformat your drive without a xp cd, just ask around, your friends at work or just friends any xp cd will work you will just have to use the liecense code on the xp sticker that is on your computer case.

If you aint got the op sys cd, it aint gonna do much good to reformat as all you will end up with is a disfunctional pc! HP pcs DO have a restore to factory option tho....I believe pressing the f10 key repeatedly during boot will get you to the menu....

The solutions in the previous this are solid, in the event that they don't artwork, attempt this. Win XP won't load in DOS, in case you formatted your hard disk it is now a DOS rigidity, and XP won't see it as a achievable rigidity to load on. Run fdisk, in case you formatted your rigidity it is going to coach as a DOS partition. you need to eliminate the rigidity, which removes the DOS, eliminate the startup disk, placed the XP setup cd in, and reboot. Setup will now discover the rigidity, and could format it as area of the setup technique. DON"T reformat it your self. it constantly works for me.

When you see the BIOS HP Screen, quickly press F11 and follow their instructions. Remember to save your files first since it uses the Recovery Portion of your hard drive (usually D: HP_RECOVERY) to factory-default settings. When you restored it, remember to go to HP> Recovery Disc Creation to burn your discs to make sure you can restore your computer next time much more easier.

there is a way to reformat your hard drive without the cd but the thing is you wont be able to install xp.

if you only have to reformat your drive here is the step

go to run> type cmd> type format c: (that is if xp is installed on c or if c is the drive that you want to format)

    good luck

YOU COULD TRY THE SYSTEM RESTORE FUNCTION IN XP TO SET THE SYSTEM BACK TO AN EARLIER OPERATIONAL STATE OR JUST BUY A OEM LICENSE FOR ABOUT $129.00 ON THE WEB.

Check to see if you have a system recovery disk that was bundled with your PC when you first bought it.

Otherwise, fire up your recovery program and burn your own HP recovery disk.

you would need the orginal RESTORE disks from HP that came with the computer. other than that, find a friend with a copy
