Did you see that news story about the elderly man being hit by a car and no one helped him?
This happened in Hartford, Connecticut...Is this a symptom of godlessness?
What is this world coming to when people just stand and look at the man and don't even try to help him!!!???

No - Christians seem not to believe in the science and evolution that medicine is based upon so tend to stand back and pray instead!!!
If only they used the telephone or had a shred of humanity - but then sadly, that is how bad a lot of Chrsitians have become!!

It's a psychological phenomenon called diffusion of responsibility, also known as bystander apathy and Genovese syndrome, in which someone is less likely to intervene in an emergency situation when other people are present and able to help than when he or she is alone.
So basically if there are several other people around whenever something like this happens the people just assume someone else will help or is more qualified to help.
Physically moving him may result in spinal damage or something and so calling 911 and waiting for medical professionals to come would be safest.
However, some person(s) should have tried to stop the traffic so the man wouldn't get run over again and ask him if he could talk, where he was hurting, try to stop any bleeding that may be occurring and generally stay with him until help arrived.
... it is not a sign of godlessness. *laughs*

I think they were scared to move him, my son learned that in school the other day, that if someone falls off the swing set you should wait for the paramedics to get there because they might have a neck/back injury that moving could make worse.
Either that, or diffusion of responsibility. Ever notice how whenever a crowd gathers, nobody feels responsible, because they all think, "everybody ELSE could have stopped it but chose not to" - meaning it's everybody else's fault? Either way, it's sad. It's very sad. That man probably had a wife and children. Maybe he even had grandchildren.
Edit: I don't like Christianity, I used to be a Baptist, but I don't know how people fail to see that back in the 50s when people were more religious, this never would have happened. Not because cars went slower, but because when someone saw an old man, they helped him cross the street, damn it!

I'm sad to say that things like that Do happen in the rest of the world. I'm in the uk and a week ago something like that happened near where I live, not only did people drive on by, but one even drove OVER the woman. If that's not sick, I don't know what is.

It is sad that no one did anything but call 911. At least one of the by-passing car could stop in front of him, to stop him from being hit a third time. However, the worst part of this video is this event happen a lot more than we all want to believe it does.

It has something to do with Ameeerican Godliness...Such things dont happen in the rest of the world... So, you should run out of Ameeerica as soon as possible... That is if you want to live like a human being...

Actually, that kind of thing happens all the time. People assume that other people have already called 911 so they don't do it themselves.
They were probably afraid they would hurt him more if they helped him. That, or they were afraid they would be in danger themselves out in the road like that.
Source(s): ALWAYS call 911 if you see someone in trouble, even if you think other people have already done so. Unless you saw them do it, you don't know for sure! - Old Timer TooLv 71 decade ago
One other thing hasn't been mentioned, and I'm not sure that it is even relevant. A number of years ago, people used to help others with regularity, and then a number of the victims starting suing those who stopped to help because their "help" made matters worse.
The nation started turning its back on those who needed help out of fear of being taken to court and losing all they had.
Are these signs of godlessness? Absolutely. In both cases.

Actually, no.
Learn some Sociology.
If there is a group of people, the members will not act because they rely on the others to help.
If the accident would have occured in front of one person, the person would have helped.
Or is that too scientific for ya?
I agree it was very sad though

People actually did call 911 right away, but the fact that noone ran out and helped him and that people drove around him and didnt stop their cars is pretty sickening.
