  • While there are over 30 different Zechariah's mentioned in the Bible, I am going to assume that you are trying to bring out a seeming contradiction by Jesus when he spoke of the "blood of Abel down to the blood of Zechariah, who was slain between the altar and the house.” (Luke 11:51)

In the parallel account in Matthew, Jesus tells us that Zechariah is the son of Barachiah (Mat 23:35).

We know with a fair amount of certainty that the Zechariah that Jesus was referring to was not the "Zechariah son of Berechiah" who wrote the book of Zechariah (Zech 1:1). There is nothing to indicate that this particular Zechariah was murdered.

Rather, Jesus is far more likely to be referring to the Zechariah mentioned in 2Chronicles chapter 24, because of the circumstances of his death and because Chronicles is listed last in the traditional Jewish canon, thereby making Abel the first and Zechariah the last righteous man recorded in the Hebrew Scriptures as having been murdered. This harmonizes with the intended meaning in Luke 11:51.

in 2Chron 24:20 however, Zechariah is said to be "the son of Jehoi′ada the priest", and not Barachiah. Did Jesus really make an error? No.

Some have thought that the aged priest Jehoiada (2 Chron. 24:15) was actually Zechariah’s grandfather and that his father (Barachiah) was not mentioned in the Hebrew Scriptures, though his name may have been preserved in the genealogies of the priests. Another suggestion, and one that is quite reasonable, is that Jehoiada, the father of Zechariah, who was murdered, may have had two names, as is the case with other Biblical persons. (Compare Matthew 9:9 and Mark 2:14). Interestingly, the meaning of Barachiah (Jah blesses) is much like that of Jehoiada (Jehovah knows or regards).

The most popular Zachariah in the Bible, was an Old Testament prophet; the writer of the Book of Zachariah. I am not sure who his son's name was.

Zachariah was a prophet i don't know of a son but he was the son of Berechiah the son of Iddo. He predicted the return of the Hebrews to Jerusalem and of the messiah first and second return. (Jesus)

Theres two popular ones. One Zachariah was a prophet of the kingdom of Judah. The other was the father of John The Baptist. Thats as straightforward as I can do.
