Can anyone give me a solid suggestion to let my parents do this?

I will gettin' a disabilty check for $6,000 in early July. I want to help Mom & Dad by havin' their tanks filled with heatin' oil (right now, it would cost approximately $1500; but that would last 'em 2 seasons with the way they use their furnance, even though they did run close to empty this past winter).I know they're gonna tell me to use the money for myself; but I live a very modest lifestyle, and I don't go without. They keep padlocks on the tanks, so payin' for the oil at the business and havin' them just show up to fill the tanks when Mom & Dad are gone won't work. Now, they're not broke or anything like that...I just want to help 'em because they helped me out of a tight spot a couple of years ago (without askin' for repayment), and Mom is always ready and willin' to take me to me doctor's appointments, shoppin' and so forth while refusin' any gas monies from me...

any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated...

Update:

no...they don't take vacations anymore; and i can't open a savings account in their name without the SS numbers...

Maybe you should try a different approach and set up a savings account for them. Tell them that the money is there if they need it and you would like to repay them. If it's in a savings fund its drawing interest. Then they can use it when they do need it.

*No an account in your name on behalf of them. I know you can't open it in their name. Tell them its there and let them make the decision on how it's spent.

Maybe take their cars in and pay for tune-ups and new tires is also another idea. Maybe you can get a friend to help.

Maybe not a savings account but maybe savings bonds or stock. They only go up if you invest it right. You can have savings bonds done for them in their names.

Maybe put it in a bank account for them. For a nice vacation for the two of them. I'm sure they could use a vacation, right? Tell them they have no choice because it's already paid for. :) Or surprise them with a trip that you've picked out just for them. They can't get a refund on the tickets. So they might as well go.

find a contractor that will do a free estimate on the cost of winterizing their home. sense they are getting older and want to keep house warmer. make the house so it won't loose as much energy oh by the way the govt. will give tax incentives for making home more efficient. and that is the excuse you can use for having the contractor come by then pick an item and have it done.

You sound like a great son! I think the bank account idea is an excellent one. It would accrue some interest and could

be like a 'rainy day fund' for them.
