which port to put freon for a/c on a 2001 pt cruiser?

I looked under the hood and there are 2 tubes with the same cap. Which one do I choose to put the recharger for the freon?

Thank you for your help!

If you buy the little "cheapie charging connector", - you will find that it will only fit on one!, As the "charge connector" (low pressure side) is bigger than the "high pressure side one! Low pressure is on the bigger of the two hoses from compressor also!

Also check and make sure that your vehicle uses R-134A and not R-12, -- This you can tell by looking at fittings too! As the R-12 connectors are theraded on outside like valve stem on car tire -but different size-- (again low pressure side is bigger of the two)--- R-134 fittings are "snap on" connectors with a ring cut in outer (smooth) sleeve-- about 1/8 " from top!

Anyway the two kinds of "referigerants" do not mix,- and will cause expensive problems! There may also be a tag somewhere in engine compartment telling what kind of referigerant it uses (if it hasn't come off by now)!!

At the end of the day YOU are the one who has to like the car. If you ask around enough about any car someone will give you negative feedback. If a PT cruise is what you want why worry about what anyone else thinks about it, my first vehicle was a 1965 International Scout (15 hears ago). It did its job and was fun to drive. Keep in mind the vehicles preventative maintenence recommendations in mind when looking at vehicles. Often a vehicle is traded off at or after these milage markers (usually every 30,000 miles) because someone did not want to spend the money on it. Preventative maintenence is recommended to prevent you from being stuck on the side of the road and to keep actual repair costs to a minimum. I know from personal experience that it is very expensive to replace the timing belt on a PT cruiser (the vehicle belonged to one of my customers). Also before purchasing a vehicle I would highly recommend have a reputable shop inspect the vehicle so you know if there are any hidden concerns with the vehicle.

I assume you own an ac machine. Hook up the high and low side lines from the machine to your vehicle. Evacuate the system and put it in a vacuum for 15 minutes, turn vacuum pump off and make sure it holds a vacuum, if it does put in correct amount of refrigerant in OUNCES and use your ac dye kit and put some dye in the system, then start the vehicle and check the gauges for proper readings and check the temperature in the vents. Check system with black light to determine your source of leak.

you alway charge the system from the low side - that will be the smaller fitting with the larger line. be sure not to over charge your system - the amount of charge should be on a label in the engine compartment. good luck
