Why is it that if you don't support Obama it is permissable for people to say you are racist?

Why is this process of labeling me not racism in and of itself? i just don't understand

I dont' get the if someone is white and does not vote obama they are racist...I'd wouldn't vote for him if he was a white red head like me- I simply think his politics are wrong and dangerous. So isn't racist to assucme that if iam white adn voting for someone else that I must be not voting for him becuase he is black.. soulnd racist to me.

Update:

Say it again--Thanks for an answer that helps me understand. I can see your point-- people assume because I am white I..... whatever Obama.... just like many whites assume because someone is black they.... so it is not as much true racism as it is stereotyping?

And Troy--Wow I'd stack my degrees, earnings history, Thesis on ancient greek and schooling at one of the nations top prep schools and my degrees from one of the best B-schools in the country against your background any day. When you own companies that have supplied a way to earn a decent living to over 50 people for the last 10 years then you can worry about how well l type as a refelction fo my knowledge of the issues.

Your answer illustrates my point- as an Obama supporter your words indicate that you didn't even bother to consider my question. I am looking for thoughts since I'm a white father of a black adopted child & my neighboors say i must have racist tendancies because I am not supporter

Update 2:

odd thing is it is white folks who say it

I seriously doubt the reason people believe you to be racist is because your not going to vote for Obama. No doubt, like other white anti Obama people I've spoken to, it is because of the language used while articulating the reasons for not voting for Obama. Statements such as,"Black people think..." or" If they get a black president then..." As if you know the mind and motives of an entire race of people. Usually it's these narrow minded comments that are made while expressing a dislike of Obama, not the fact of not wanting to vote for Obama .

Your not a racist. It's definitely not permissible for anyone to think that. They're just trying to fault you for having a different opinion. As far as im concerned Obama is a serious threat to this country's well being. Now that he's been elected the democratic nominee, there is a very high chance that Hilary will run as his vice pres. So all of you that said you wouldn't vote for hilary ever.... here is your bed now lay in it.

I'm having that problem with an Obama supporter right now... and I AM VOTING FOR HIM...

I originally voted for Hillary and so now this friend of mine wants to go off on tangents about how Hillary voters are all racist... it's like he doesn't even see me sitting there having coffee with him (he's black and I'm white...)

How many racists do you know that would sit there and listen to crap like that from their black friends?

It bugs the heck outta me... Especially since Hillary started out with more Black supporters anyway and McCain has a black kid... And Obama is not even entirely black...

I never have planned on voting for him but it has nothing to do with him being black... it has to do with his lack of experience ... anyone can claim and say they are going to do something but you need EXPERIENCE and knowledge to run this country, not vote for a candidate thats promising change and cant back it up and or prove how hes going to do anything... Dont worry clinton didnt and wont get my vote either

    McCain ALL THE WAY

After reviewing your Q&A I have found no justifiable reason for calling you a racist. However you know as well as I that many racially prejudiced questions and answers directed at Obama are posted here on YA.

questions like: "Anyone have Obama's fried chicken recipe?", "Do you think Obama will be endorsed by any Malt Liquor companies?", and "If Obama is elected will watermelon become the national dish?"

Do you mean on this site or in real life? I get called that on this site and simply ignore it--its naive and these people have no idea who I am.

In real life, I argue politics with liberal attorneys all the time and not once has that charge been leveled at me because they know me.

Let me see. If you have very lame reasons for bashing Obama like saying he's a Muslim when he went to a Christian church, or that his middle name is Hussein after Saddam Hussein, thats racist stupidity. People proly call you racist instead of stupid. That way, they keep track of you better.

VOTE FOR OBAMA OR YOU'RE A RACIST. I can't wait to see the tee-shirts. Sort of like Vinnie Barbarino's campaign ad: VOTE FOR VINNIE, AND NO ONE GETS HURT

Nobody's saying that except you....probably because you don't know flip about the issues.

Hopefully there's a school in your dream world so you can learn to spell and weave a comprehensive sentence together.

Because the ones saying this is the same group of people who 'make the rules' and then change them when it's not convenient. They also want him only cause he's black and think we think the same way. You are suppose to go by their rules or get called names!
