For quarterback I like the ability to throw off the defense with roll-outs to the left, it is just enough different to throw the defense off. For a long time there was a misconception that receivers would have a difficult time catching the ball from a left-handed quarterback. Kenny Stabler and Steve Young blew away that thought.
For a pitcher, it depends on what level you are working with. There are a greater number of left-handed batters in the major leagues, or even the minors, when compared to high school. Those left-handed batters feasted on right-handed pitching so more of them rose to the top. In amateur baseball, I do not think that it really matters.
If I were looking for myself or my child, I would encourage left-handedness. Do you ever hear of a right-handed relief specialist? No, it is always the leftys that they are looking for.

Makes no difference the ability is what counts.I would use the best player left or right in both positions.
