A little thought experiment (see details)...?
If God created the mind and human consciousness, wouldn't the most influential nations of the world be the most religious?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/wtwtgod/3490...
Of course, we have the Vatican (not included in the poll), which exerts a high degree of influence around the world (with Catholics), but how many of these countries are world leaders in social and domestic policy? Is it just me, or shouldn't there be a connection between faith and social policies if my first statement were true?
Read the poll...a greater majority of people in Nigeria, Indonesia, India, Lebanon, and Mexico "said they believed in God, prayed regularly and would die for their belief" than in the US. Wouldn't these countries be higher on the social policies continuum than the US, if their God was responsible for human consciousness?
THE MIGHTY RA: Thank you, I think you get what I was pointing out.
jennifer_weisz: You're of course right, it's not a true thought experiment. But for a little clarification...If we grant the premise that God gave humans a consciousness (which I don't agree with), and by extension a soul and morality, would we not expect to see a correlation between countries with the highest percentage of believers and internal/domestic policies in those countries that carry those beliefs out into practice? Or should we see this?
oputz: Thanks...I was wondering if anyone would point out the determinism/free will factor.

Good one, but the answer would be No. Let me explain. Your main assumption in the experiment (let's just call it that...) is that God created human mind and consciousness. Your next assumption is though, that if God did, those nations that are most religious therefore should be most influential. This would be the case if God had created human consciousness in a way that it could not but act according to religious beliefs. Therein lies the problem...
Humans have free will. We can choose. (We could talk about whether that is true or not, and I am more than happy to, but for now let me just state the obvious...) So if God created our minds (in other words, if we are substances and our mind is an essence of our species), then we were still created with free will... And as such, we can turn from God and religion and become very, very influential even though we are not religious.

If you look at it a little deeper you will find that the most influential nations of the world are the most religious. 9/11 was brought on by religion. World War II was brought on by religion. There is a connection between religion and social parties in other countries. We try to keep that separate in the U.S. However, I would like to caution you that just because someone is religious doesn't make them "righteous" or "good". Religion takes a lot of different forms.

If god created mind and consciousness, dont make the assumption that it is for worship. If we were made to worship god and take the sabbath off, etc., we wouldn't need sustenance because we would be in a permanent state of bliss in an immaterial world which is absurd. We live in a material world which cannot have been created by an immaterial force or entity, because something immaterial does not in fact exist. An immaterial force: the concept is contradictory and backwards.

Think it is the blind belief factor which causes the problem, open mind searching belief is quite often possitive, a lot of ground breaking science developed in such climes!
The problem of blind belief seems to be cause of economic decay and social decline!
If one looks at the fever pitch of Fundamentalism in the last few years and compare it with the the economy and social system, you can clearly see a correlation!
Blind belief brings in dark times!

Not necessarily, God has nothing to do with religion. Religion is totally human creation. God created everybody the same, if He wanted to create religion, it would have been 1 religion. As there are so many religions, and every faith vying for the number 1 spot says something don't you think

you're needy, you're a fantasist, you rely on others and on perfect others, you're lonely, misunderstood. you're changing as a guy or woman and experimenting with distinctive recommendations and impacts. you have low self-rather worth yet mistakenly think of that that's more suitable via being decisive and opinionated whilst it is composed of particularly minor chioces, like 'accepted shade' or 'accepted band'. the only element you're valuable approximately is your innate intelligence and each little thing else is self delusion. Your rigidity is concentrated around your grades. you're uncertain in case you could shop them up. Your head is bloated with exhilaration relating to the colorings you could wash your self in. Your ideas-blowing activity would be Dita von Tease-esque: uncooked, elegant, enjoyed, spotlight intercourse. whether, as you improve in self assurance and existence turns into calm and hardship-free, you will understand you will make an incredible defence legal expert.

God gave us the freedom of choice, thus we can believe in whatever we want. Satan has dominion over this world because Adam geve it up to him. God has let him have control of all those that chose not to follow Him because of sin. Satan wants us all to not believe in God so not believing in any religion works for him. that is why most political leaders are not religious or do not fully use the Bible as a guide.

This is not a thought experiment - just an observation of the facts.
Uneducated, poor countries tend to be the most religious/superstitious - which tells you something about the validity of religion (it's mickey-mouse mate).

Nope. You are not basing your conclusion on anything sound. That may be a somewhat valid argument, but that's about it. There should be a connection, but many claiming to be religious really have no idea what they believe, and those who have found the truth don't force their beliefs on anybody else.

I don't think politics particularly concern God. Man usually messes that up enough without His help.
