    I forsee the wider use of the internet. in the future. You are going to see Home Networks that grow to encompass the whole house. Where your Fridge sends you an email telling you your out of milk and it has purchased it for you to stop on the way home and pick up along with other food items. You will be able to prepare meals and place them in to the oven which will keep them cool untill you send it an email telling it to start cooking. All of your home will communicate with itself and your over the internet. You windows will know to be open shut or your E-glass clear or opaque. You will be able to Moniter your children at school and on the way home and while at home. Better and more affortable security camers will allow HD quality full color security from your personal home page (The page you control your home operations from). You will be able to tell your robotic vacume to vacume the house while veryone is out that way not disturbing anyone but the family cat. Speeking of the family pet I see that collars with embedded technology that will moniter your pets health and shots again It will cross referance with your online day planner and schedule the most convenient time for you drop off your pet and get the needed medical attition. Your roof will be covered in 1/10" high performance solar cells that are coltroled by the home server to be at optiomem performance at all times. slightly tilting them to gather more sun. This again will be linked to the power companies computer system allowing for so much free electricity to enter the grid the need to burn coal and oil is reduced by 90%.

    You car will also be on the internet and communicating with your home your phone and the cars arround it on the road. Cars will be able to communicate between themselves over short distance by way of wi-fi signals. This would reduce the ammount of accidents and traffice congestion on our roadways in major cities like Washington DC and Los Angeles. By having cars communicate they could over ride the drivers input to a point and apply gass and breaks faster or more smoothly allowing for better gas miliage due to the computer controled cars being able to "Draft" thus reducing drag. When cars were involved in an accident they could send exact gps coordinates to police cars closest to the accident along with fire and rescue. This would shorten response times saving many more lives. You car would email you and your dealership or mechanic letting everyone know that the self diagnostics system found that you need a new belt lower radiador hose and a oil change. It will cross referance with your online day planner and schedule the most convenient time for you drop off your car and get the needed work done.

    Business will become more intertwined with the internet so much so that some companies will only have a cyber store. With on-demand shipping and manufacturing we will streamline the production and shipping aspects of retail. I also believe that many more jobs in the market will be able to be done at home via a telacommute.

    Wat I would like to see is a 10 fold speed /data transfer rate increase.

    I think the internet will be highly intagraded into all class rooms from 1st to college. We will see touch screen desktops where there is no need for paper books or paper to do work on. E-paper will be able to communicate with your desk at school and allow you to complete and email your assigments to your teacher or professor.

    I would like to see the internet cleaned up some as well. I feel that any pornagraphic site should be moved into a domain all to itself the .xxx domain. That way it would make it easier to acces them for thoese that wish to access them and easier for parents to control access by children. By ten year will will need to be on atleast IPv8 I believe because we will have run out of IP address.

    Maybe we can do away with petty wars and move to online gaming. Where two old farts play Playstation 5 and who ever wins wins.

    I also believe that we will see the internet begin to start moving into the 3rd world countries and heling to improve the standards of living. Allowing the top doctors from the usa to set up a single robotic doctor and via the internet and video and audio inputs be able to preform surgeries in remote locations. this would also allow for the doctors to examin patiants from afar and not risk life if contagious agents exist.

    The would coul b made such a better place if the internet is used wisely, on the other hand it could be the downfall of modern western civilitation.

    We have the technology it is the fact that the government does not want it used.

    Well, the Internet is very, very useful, we use it for information, games, music, videos, chat, etc. The Internet is going to have a lot of abilities in the future. A couple years ago, the internet can have a webcam on it. That is now popular. I can't really predict what special stuff the Internet will have in the next 10 years. You have to think. What capabilities did the Internet have 10 years ago? Here is a personal experience-

    My family got the internet around 1997. I remember the day when my dad dished out a ton of money to put in a 56k modem into our computer. When we received the internet, I remember not knowing what to do with it. But over time of course, I learned, and I haven't stopped since.

    Here is a list of a few things I remember from the internet when I first got it. Perhaps some of you can relate to it.

    * Seeing What Websites Existed

    I remember grabbing regular packages around the house and looking up any kind of website I could. I remember testing URLs to see if a site even existed. Our computer was so bad at the time, the internet froze after looking at one page. So I had to write down URL links, close the browser, and start again using the new link URL.

    * The Dancing Baby

    This was a 3D studio max creation in 1996. It swept the internet shortly after. I remember spending time downloading this thing and watching it and thinking it was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. It still is pretty cool, looking back at it.

    * AOL Search

    AOL was not our internet service provider, we had our internet locally. However, that was what I use to use back then to search up websites.

    * Poorly Done Websites

    Some websites today still suck, even if they're new. However, do you remember how most websites had bright flashy backgrounds, midi music in the background, and you had to scroll down page after page to read the whole site? It was terrible compared to what we have today.

    *Waiting 2 hours to download an 8 minute video

    When the internet came to my family household, Titanic was popular at the time. I remember loving the movie so much that I would go online just to download small clips and trailers from the movie. Eventually I did this for a lot of films, but I distinctly remember doing it a lot for Titanic footage

    Now, you should be able to figure out what the Internet will be like 10 years from now, 2018.

    I do think that we will still have the Internet. The Internet will be a lot faster than it is now, and it will be very portable (it already can be used on cell phones and some video game systems). But also the Internet might get too good, if we can do so much stuff on the Internet that might turn into an Internet addiction where we constantly need to be on the Internet ALL the time and we end up spending less time doing really important things in life. We basically get lost in the Internet and can't seem to get away. That would be the only down side that I can think of to making the Internet available pretty much ANYWHERE. Other than that I think the Internet is a really good thing, it has helped us in so many ways so far and will keep on helping us far into the future.

    True, the Internet has gone through many changes and advances through the years. Just remember, we started with big and bulky computers just a little while back, and now we have the thinnest notebook computer in the world.

    In the future, everyone will have computers and we will all be connected and monitored through the Internet. Data on our overall health will be sent to our doctors. Many things will be able to be done through the Internet, just like today, except it will be more common. Ordering food and shopping for clothing will be a lot easier. They'll arrive at your door the day you buy them. Most people, in their work, will be involved or have to do something with the Internet some way or another. Everyone will be computer literate. Entertainment will also be affected by the growth of the Internet. Movies will be watched at home or on peoples phones or notebook computers instead of at the cinema. Slow Internet speeds and wired house phones will be a thing of the past. Everyone will be wired to the Internet on which they will do all their electronic communications. Buildings like stores and schools, vehicles like cars, and even the clothing people wear will be connected to the Internet. Finding something will be as simple as tapping a touchscreen. Need to use a credit card? No worries, cellphones will function like credit cards and debit cards. The information will reach to bank in no time. Just swipe and it's paid for, but what about identity theft? No worries about that either, every ones identity will be entered into a central database. Your computer will already know if your the owner. It will alert the authorities if there's anything wrong. The authorities can check up on you though live feeds of information through, again, the Internet. All electronics and vehicles will be tracked by GPS so that it's never lost. Electronics will also hold ID information accessible only by the owner and the authorities. There will be much much more, so much that we won't be able to fathom it all. The Internet is always evolving and more and more advances in technology are added to it everyday. I won't be surprised if, ten years from now, we have a second world in the Internet in which we can live in and interact with other people.

  • The Internet will eventually be reconfigured to be faster with greater capabilities. The devices will continue on the path of portability, minute-should not be in the cards...gotta see it. It should be integrated into every school and street corner. I would say South Korea's Internet capabilities and related industries today is where the United States will be in10years from now. As quiet as it is kept, the United States is not the technological leader in this area. Sweden, Japan and Taiwan are at least 10 years ahead of Internet related lifestyles.

    Where the rubber meets the road for America is the extent to which government seeks to regulate this media. Somewhere deep in the bowels of government, some legislator has a deep sinister laugh with a Tesla coil arc lighting the room beneath some Frankenstein idea of how government can regulate the Internet.

    If Verizon can manage to navigate beyond government regulation, then these next 5-10 years will be the impetus to a Renaissance. Much like the now legendary renaissance in France with it's luminaries that contributed to so many facets of life, simply because they were onto something. Ths too will hold true with the internet, but much faster, simpler and perhaps far more complicated. However, the whole world flourishes similar to a morning rain with the sun breaking through the crest of a new day. The upside is massive. In the next 10 years this will be our platform for every aspect of our lives; well that is a nother question on a different day.

    Cheers.

    Just as voice over IP has become quite popular I predict we will soon see televion over IP. I'm sure there are compaies out there working on it as we speak. Connection have become much faster and this is a possibility. I think what will stop the TV over IP is companies blocking the service. I don't think Comcast or Verizon would want people buying this service over their internet when they sell television service.

    I don't see the current wired internet getting much faster. I have read articles about the internet being transmitted over power lines but I don't think that is the answer either. I think very fast wireless will be starting to come around in about ten years. I can can see wireless being about 2 to 5 times faster than our current cable connections in 10 years.

    Most people now don't even use half of the internet's features now due to poor quality of software. The problem being is that Microsoft has bogged down windows so much even with an expensive pc functions and features can be slow. The ticket to the future will be a basis operating system with user launchable application that are run on an as needed basis.

    If there were better software available more people would video conference or call, paper to digital mail, and do other daily functions.

    ISP's need to do a better job policing the internet. The last thing the internet needs is government control. If the ISP's would souce virus's and spam it could be stopped. If this doesn't happen the oulook in 10 years is either governed by the FCC completly or so messed up people don't want to use it.

    Future capabilites are endless. I'm sure there are many great minds out there thinking of the next great thing for the net. Most of it is a matter of getting everyone online. The older generation fears the internet. If it was availble I would grocery shop on the net, shop from many of my favorite stores that are not on the net, I also still mail bills because most of my utility companies charge a fee for using the net.

    I don't think it will happen in 10 years or even 20 but the internet framework will be used eventually for all monitary transactions eliminating the need for paper money.

    Now that we have experienced the true growth from our dreams, ie: in 1900 ask the same question to someone who, having ridden a horse all his life, where we will be on the airplane and car scene in so many years in the future. Man then was at a quandary to answer such a question because nothing like that had ever been seen before. Now we know that the future of our dreams does exist and once again the question is put forth, where do you think we will be in ten years?

    With the onset of mechanical nanobots and even now the newer discoveries of tissue regrowth etc, we can expect to be able to fullfill our remotest and most extravegant illusions, dreams and imaginations with some reality experience that probably will go way beyond anything we can possibly come up with. Look at our movies, for example, "The Matrix". Just the fact that they can do such a thing on the big screen and it all came from someones imagination. Computers and the internet fit right in and make such things possible. You can now go into the Internet 3D and I wont be surprised if we are not able to eat, sleep and live within such a domain and not really have to leave ever. Perhaps in this way we will discover how to reach in and awaken or comunicate with coma patients. Our children grew up in game parlours and are now bombing and killing and creating a new reality that make "Iron Man" seem pretty near a reality if it isn't already. Arnold Shwarzeneggers "Terminator" is not so far off, perhaps within a decade the thing will be so real that perhaps we will learn to imagine other things that will help humans because we can imagine no more destructive means to end mankind.

    Well, there is a website called http://www.thinkgeek.com/ and they have a Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard that creates a virtual keyboard on any flat surface.

    http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/input/8193/

    Then we have the Amazon.com new gadget, which is the portable book called the Kindle. Anywhere there is wireless internet, you can download books, newspaper, directions, etc on this tiny thing.

    So, based on the available technology, I see a teeny, tiny, flat electronic device, similar to an iPod that can laser project a keyboard out of it, as well as laser project a larger computer monitor on the wall. Sounds very Star Wars, but it's not that far off. If you can have a virtual key board (thinkgeek.com) AND a virtual screen if the information you are looking at is hard to read on the device's screen, then I see people just carrying around an iPod device. No more laptops, certainly no more desktop computers, lol!

    There are plenty of cool gadgets out there in the world. If one were to combine several of the as I described above (which is just an example - I really haven't spent much time thinking about it, to be honest) then people can be more mobile. Also, with the availability of wireless internet, cords and such are superfluous.

    Not to mention the wireless cards cell phone companies have. Those things are great. The internet is no longer dial-up. It's become it's own sentient being that surrounds everything we do. The internet has become an omnipotent God. Obviously, not God, but it does sometimes seem like the internet is a kind of Oracle. It sees all, knows all... ask it a question and chances are, somehow, somewhere, the answer can be found. You don't even need to exert much effort or be aware you are online! Heck, you can even print documents via wireless stuff! Cool.

    I must say, this is quite an interesting question! Personally, I think that with the internet how it is now, the internet in ten years will be extremely sophisticated. With computers the way they are, who knows what is next! We never thought that we could ever have things like WebCams, Portable laptops, or Instant messaging, did we? Well, now that they are here, we know that anything is possible. Maybe in the future there will be remote controlled computers, or even touch screen ones. The Internet will also probably be completely changed - there will be live TV and telephone - other things too. We might start having online jobs and careers, and maybe even online schools. We could have our computers tell us almost anything we want. It would all be great!

    But, with the internet getting more and more high-tech each day, there's gotta be some problems somewhere! Computer hackers will get more and more skilled at what they do.

    In the end, I believe that the internet will still be great and addictive in ten years, as it is today. : )
