When filing a substitution of attorneys, I'm I required to my my attorney sign the paper.?

I filed paperwork in court today which shows that I have fired my attorney and that I'm handling my case on my own.

Both the Plaintiff and Dependents Attorney are aware of this.

They are telling me that its not a valid document.

Is it or not?

Present your document to clerk at the court registry and ask if further documents are required to inform the court that you have dismissed atty and as of (date of termination of atty) will now be representing yourself. There may be some form required to indicate that atty has properly advised you in this regard. It's different everywhere and at different levels of court, etc.

You might also check the website of local courts for rules of procedure (civil and criminal) when accused/litigant dismisses counsel. Some sites have these online - others do not.
