The Cure is my favorite band.
Of their stuff, I would suggest you give "The Head on the Door" a listen, as well as "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me." On second thought, "Pornography" has that sound, too, if I am reading you correctly.
I will warn you that "The Top" is kind of a one off album. Robert Smith worked on it pretty much alone, and he plays most of the instruments on the whole album, despite other people getting credit because of contract obligations. He was just really frustrated and kept kicking people out of the studio, so it's probably the closest you'll get to what it sounds like inside Robert Smith's head.
If you're looking for other bands on that "plane of strange", you might try Siouxsie and the Banshees. I really recommend that you try "Once Upon A Time" and "Twice Upon a Time", both by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Both are compilation albums of singles, but they will give you a really good idea of what Siouxsie and the Banshees sound like. Obviously, "Once Upon..." is the first one, and I think it's the better of the two. They have a very distinctive sound, and yes, it's a bit strange. "Once Upon a Time" is one of my favorite albums, despite the fact that I own the actual albums which the songs were drawn from. I think I just like the track listing, meaning the order the tracks are in.
If I think of anything else, I will come back and post an edit. I am so accustomed to that stuff that none of it sounds even remotely strange to me, so I have to try and think about it from a different perspective.

Hmm, IMO there is nothing that compares to The Cure and the collaborations of Robert Smith. They are one of a kind and when I'm in the mood for The Cure (which is all the time) nothing else will do - except maybe Depeche Mode. I went through my collection to see what I have that you might like. Let me know what you think.
Smashing Pumpkins - "Gish"
The Damned - "Anything"
Yaz - "Best of Yaz"
Violent Femmes - "Violent Femmes"
Depeche Mode - "Black Celebration"
Depeche Mode - "Some Great Reward"
Depeche Mode - "Violator"
Depeceh Mode - "Songs of Faith and Devotion"
NIN - "Pretty Hate Machine"
Sisters of Mercy - "Floodland"
Siouxie and the Banshees- "Twice Upon a Time The Singles"
The Smiths - "Louder Than Bombs"
