Vermont: Looking for info on best towns to live in?

Like I said above, I'm looking for information about Vermont. I plan on making a couple trips there before moving, but would like an idea of where to go on my trip.

We want to buy a house in the near future and I see a lot of great homes for good prices(compared to CT) and want to know some of the better/safer areas.

I have looked on the Vermont Chamber of Commerce website and found some ideas but would prefer to hear from people that live/lived there.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question =)

Update:

Thanks for the answers and links so far =) any other advice or areas to avoid would be most helpful.

I live in Poultney, VT and I love it here. It is a nice little college town with a little less than 2000 people. My grandparents just built a new house and their old house is for sale. It has 3 bedroom, 1.5 baths, large family room, 2 car garage, and it is listed at like $189,000 or $185,000. It's a quiet town, and just about everyone know everybody. It is about 20 minutes away from Rutland, VT, 1.5 hours from Glensfalls, NY and about 2 hours from Burlington, VT. Check out these websites...

If you want a city there isn't very many, Burlington seems to be alright but a little uhm...crunchy?...I would not recommend Rutland if you want it to be safer than CT. There are allot of ski towns that are nice like Stowe and Ludlow, though the houses can be a little pricey in those towns. To me most of the state is a nice place to live, and much safer than CT. Good luck.

If you are looking for 'city' then Burlington or Stowe...but they are not the safest. My parents own their own real estate business for 20 years and sell a lot to out of staters. Their Website is : www.explorevermont.com

The part of Vermont is called the Northeast Kingdom, and it is very safe, rural, beautiful.
