Is $0.00 normal for waiters?

I work at Carino's Italian Grill in Texas. Supposedly I receive $2.13 an hour, but my paycheck is always $0.00. I spoke with the other servers and they all receive the same amount.

Should we ban together and strike?

Or is there someone I should contact i.e. District manager, Regional manager etc.?

Your hourly wage is eaten up by income taxes.

If you look on your pay stub it will tell you how much you earned and how much taxes you have paid.

Be sure to bank some of your tips because your hourly wage sometimes is not enough to cover your taxes.

You are entitled to min wage minus a tip deduction. However, if you earn and claim enough tips, then the taxes, SS, etc. could eat up your paycheck. Reason is, you are taxes on all the wages you earn (including tips). So the only way the govt. gets their money from you is to take it out of the wage you get from the employer because they can't immediately get it out of your tips. HOWEVER, don't think come tax time they won't be holding out their hand for any extra they should have taxed you for that they couldn't get out of your core wages. I'm not encouraging this, but what you can do is not claim all of your tips. The credit cards, you have to (there's a record of that). But the cash tips should not be claimed as much as you seem to be doing. At least that's what I've heard others have done. ; )

Unfortunately for you it is correct, but not normal. In many states servers still fall under the minimum wage laws, for example in California servers make min wage, which is $7.50 an hour. Your wage of $2.13, and the hours you work, do not add up to amount to more than the taxes assessed from your income from tips, this is why you are not receiving any payment.

I wouldn't strike until you actually did a little checking around. Call the HR office and ask them to explain why you're not seeing the 2.13 per hour as you should. Make sure you have a copy of your paystub so you can walk through it with them.

The waitress right here gets a commission approximately $2.50/hr. With information they earn approximately $12-14/hr. no longer undesirable for section time. I certainly have by no potential heard of the eating place proprietor kicking in some pay. there is an abundance of no-ability hard paintings to take their place. No reason to bend over backwards to maintain one.

That is because all the taxes from your tips come out of your paycheck & leaves you with nothing else.. I used to wait tables & thats how mine always were

Yes, it's normal. The check is zero because of the tips you got. They are added to your gross earnings. All gross earnings are then taxed, and it usually eats up whatever you had earned at $2.13/hr. It's completely normal.

Just talk to your own manager, and see what's up, no it's not normal, even though you get tips, you still get a small (however small) wage.

You could always call the labor board in your state and ask them if what is happening to you is legal. If you tell them you want to remain anonymous you can.
