How do I put recorded video from a Panasonic pv-gs12 onto my computer?

I have tried on both a mac and a PC and each time the computer does not recognize the camcorder is there. I am connecting it with a USB cord.

The Panasonic PV-GS12 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders will connect digital video (DV) format video from the camcorder's DV port (not USB) to the computer's firewire port (not USB) using a firewire cable (not USB).

You can add a firewire/IEEE1394a/i.Link port to your computer if there is an available PCMCIA slot (laptops) or PCI slot (desktops/towers) for pretty cheap. SOme laptops require an Express card for the Express slot - they cost a bit more than the PCMCIA cards.

    Download your camcorder's manual here:

    http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/sup...

Refer to page 46 for firewire connectivity details. No, a firewire/IEEE1394a/i.Link/DV cable did not come in the box with the camcorder.

The USB connection will be used for transferring stills from the memory card. For video transfer from the miniDV tape, a USB-to-firewire converter will not work.

Not possible. Don t buy Panasonic. 2 days of looking for non existent answer. I think Panasonic might want to create a program to easily upload video to computer.
