What is meant by the term"Crimson and Clover" inthe song "Crimson and Clover" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Was just listening to the song and was curious.

    Crimson and Clover was originally sung by Tommy James and the Shondell's in the 70's. I don't think it means anything...songs just rhymed back then.

    I'm not a huge fan of oldies radio so it's an easy choice: Joan Jett. BC - I don't think Deadsy ever did this song. Wasn't that a duet with Elijah and mama Cher? MachPen - Tommy James and "reoww" just don't seem to go together. Mullet, voice no difference. He doesn't exactly float my boat. :)
