Over many years of observation, I wonder what you think of my opinion here.?
I am a mobile DJ and have noticed an increasing trend for a specific artist or title to be "out of style" only mere weeks after it's "hot." There seems to be no lasting value of music like in the "old days" for the young folks of today. I don't care of you like their music but think of the Rolling Stones still playing their music live and people loving it more than 40 years later. People still request Frank Sinatra at the events I do, even young folks. Even Michael Jackson tunes are still requested despite his current weirdness. Does it make you wonder if Soulja Boy will be listened to with that kind of love 40 years from now? Will people still listen to Brittany Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ludacris, Flo-rida, etc? What music of now do you think will last (more than 4 weeks LOL!) a long time and be listened to many years to come?

I think a lot of the pop and hip hop you hear today will still be heard in the future. There are people today who don't want to forget the songs they heard growing up. There will be people in the future who feel the same way.

you forgot Madonna.
Sinatra, the Rolling Stones, and Michael Jackson are all "classics" for a reason - they brought a new flavor and perspective to the music of that decade. britney, justin (maybe he will be exempt after he puts a little more dedication to his voice and records), all the rappers - they might have 'soul' in the subjects they talk about in their music, but they're not memorable.
a MJ song is something that you will remember for a long while, even after just one listen. his voice is different from anything anyone else has done. the current events of his life only proves how strong his records are, since he still has so many fans after everything that went on in his personal life.
that might have been a mouthful, sorry!

I suppose lots of people will disagree with me but the problem with celebrity today including singers is a lot of singers are popular and people continue to buy their tunes and they become really big and make tons of money and can't sing all that well (Britany Spears and OMG Ashlee Simpson)
Christina Aguillera already has some longevity and maybe Justin Timberlake....

Radiohead, U2, Arcade Fire, Metallica, Tool, Muse, the White Stripes, maybe Kings of Leon... Need I go on?
