whatever happened to the Saturday afternoon matinees for kids?
when I was young we went to cinemas for 6 pence and watched cartoons and serials eg rocket man superman and various other cliffhangers that meant we had to go each week to see how they developed. nothing like that now for kids.good or bad??

Saturday afternoon matinees for kids? I think they went with us Kids, about 40 years ago, ? God is it really that long.
Remember them well Superman, Rocket Man, Marvell Man. I wonder do you remember Thunder Horses, it was my favorite

The majority of films released at the cinema these days are aimed at kids and a family audience. They have a lot more choice when it comes to entertainment, so they aren't limited. Plus there is the waiting around to see how it develops over time (which was just a ploy to make more money at the cinema, the features could just as easily have been played as one), as the kids could watch the feature in a couple of hours and the parents wouldn't have to keep dragging them round to the cinema every week to see how it continued.
Kids and people in general are better off nowadays than they ever have been before.

I quite agree its a bad thing as i too used to go and loved it, there is nothing for children to do or even look forward to these days. no wonder there is so much crime........i have great memories of the ABC cinema on a saturday morning, wish i was a young child again

i used to love the saturday club, main movie with a few shorts and toons with mix-upsome cinemas still have a saturday or week-end kids club, our Odean and Empire cinema does but not sure if they get all the toons or just the main movie, Odeon even have session where parent and baby can attend or Senior citizen sessions, not a bad idean to fill a cinema when regular users are at work/school/college

Most cinemas have a Saturday morning "kids club" where they can watch older kids films for cheaper rates

hehe I remember the good ol' days when you could spend all day at the pictures for next to nothing! What with the internet and copies of films, you can watch the latest releases at home now=]

Where I lived it was the Saturday morning show for kids.
I think children today would laugh at the type of films that amused us.
