Ultrasound question?

I had an ultrasound today, and they said they were not 100% sure the sex of the baby, but that she "thought" is was a girl. I am not sure, but is it easier to tell a girl in an ultrasound or a boy? I just don't know since she thought it was a girl if that was better than "thinking it was a boy. Sorry the question is confusing, the baby had thier legs crossed and I am just wondering how likely it is that I am actually having a girl :)

It is easier to say definately if it's a boy...

    I mean, if it's a boy - it's a boy. There "IT" is - hard to mistake.

When they can't really see 'it' they can't say for sure... baby just may it's legs crossed, the cord could be wrapped just so that 'it' is blocked from view, there may be shadows, baby may have it's back facing up, any number of things... I wouldn't invest in too much pink just yet. Ask your doc if s/he will allow another u/s in a few weeks?

    good luck & congats!

I was told I am more than likely having a girl at my 19 week ultrasound. We got a clear shot between the open legs, and didn't see any "male plumbing". The ovaries weren't visible yet, that's why they didn't say 100% girl. I think it's easier to say boy for sure, since there's something there as compared to a girl with nothing really there. We knew right away my son was a boy...he was playing with himself lol.

I wouldn't be choosing wallpaper or paint yet either .

I have a friend who was told at 20 weeks she was having a girl ( her 2nd ) , she painted the nursery lavender , purchased all this girly stuff ...low and behold she had a BOY ! She and her husband were completely shocked . He went home and painted the nursery while she was still in the hospital . He couldn't bear bringing home his son to a lavender room - ha !

I don't think ultrasounds are 100 % . Only an amnio can accurately predict the sex .

Your technician is just giving you an educated guess. Even if she thinks it's a boy, it could very well still be a girl. I was supposed to be a boy :) My son was very shy and we didn't find out what we were having until we got the 3-D ultrasound. Try the 3-D. It's pretty incredible, and you'll get a better picture.

Right now greens and yellows are the best choice until you have the baby. My 3 ultrasounds clearly showed boys. My neighbor couldn't tell either and they had a boy.

I wouldn't start telling people it's a girl... Boys are easier to 'see' because you can actually see the penis... but with girls there is nothing to look for- their legs could be crossed, the penis may not have 'dropped' yet, or wrong angle...

My friend was int he same position you are- her insurance wouldn't cover another sonogram without a medical reason (she could have paid for it) So she didn't find out till she gave birth- it was a girl...

I think with a boy it's easier to tell since you can see his manly parts:). With a girl I think you see three lines. If the legs are closed, or they are ina weird position then usually you have to get another US done if you want to know the gender.

I would not start painting pink yet~ Most of the time if they have to say they are not 100%, they are very likely to be wrong. Be prepared.

If they are not sure, then they are not sure. Keep your fingers crossed, wait for a confirmed answer from the docs. All the best!
