If US healthcare is so terrible...?
why are almost all the major new drug discoveries / medical process advances happening in this country? And why are people from the WORLD OVER trying desperately to get into this country (evidence - immigration rates / visa-green card waitlists)? If US healthcare was that bad, wouldn't most folks just stay home and enjoy their free-wonderful-healthcare?

Nice job bringing in two examples (medical research and immigration) which have absolutely nothing to do with healthcare.
fsfa, Ted Kennedy is rich that's why. We do have the best system in the world, if only most Americans could enjoy it.

You only watch American news - how can you know what the rest of the world is doing?
Merck and Bayer German, Sandoz and La Roche Swiss etc...
Senator Kennedy got good health care because he could afford it - could you?
There is a big misconception about health care out there. Universal doesn't mean the government pays for it - it just means everybody should have it at all times. Did you know that most personal bankruptcy filings happen because of medical bills? What would you do if you would get a catastrophic illness tomorrow - the government would pay for it.
Continental Europe has great health care! Premiums are equally shared by employer/employee. One signs up with an insurance and stays with that company forever. Coverage is continuous! That's the HC Hilary Clinton wanted for everybody. Because employers don't need to sign up for plans, even the smallest ma'n pa shop could provide health care for their employees!!!! Has nothing to do with socialized medicine, just common sense, a healthy country and better production! Think about it.
Actually, have you seen a health insurance statement lately?
I got one today. Before I had insurance I payed S100 for a doctors visit. This time I had a co-payment of $10, the HI payed $ 48! They get steep discounts!!!!!
People, know your facts! We had a republican congress and house for 6 years, democrats still don't have a majority to change much (yet).
I'd like to suggest listening to NPR to get real news. FOX doesn't tell you the truth, just what is good for the stock holders...

Healthcare is expensive because of frivolous lawsuits. We need tort reform for medical malpractice suits. Malpractice insurance is what is driving up the cost of health care in this country. Doctors are not sued for simply doing their jobs in other countries. That is why they can provide cheaper health care. Democrats are the party of lawyers, and as long as they are in control, this will continue, Look at every democratic nominee for the past 50 years. All lawyers. This will continue into perpetuity with Dems at the helm. If we nationalize health care, tax payer money will be going directly into the hands of ambulance chasing lawyers, but not to the deserving patients who truly need better healthcare. We need tort reform in a major way. There is no denying this fact.

He has said way too much in his lifetime already. I think he should stick to speaking within his own family for the rest of his life. Kick back and be a Kennedy, so to speak. The rich get great healthcare, and the well insured, everyone else are guinny pigs to the medical society.

You are comparing apples to oranges.
Healthcare technology and medical care are completely different. Our drugs are more expensive, our healthcare is more expensive. Half of our population has no coverage or severely inadequately covered. 53% of bankruptcies in this country are due to medical issues. We spend more than any other industrialized nation on healthcare (17% of our GDP) and have the least covered (we are the only industrialized nation without universal coverage). We have the highest infant mortality rate, the lowest average lifespan of any industrialized nation.
Why people are immigrating here has nothing to do with our superior healthcare -- that's actually comical.

will MCCAIN OR OBAMA change the healtcare system to help everyone.
How will Obama help this country?
the first issue is the economy, the unemployment rate is now 5.5 percent. Price of gas and food had gone up and people who do not make a lot money are suffering.
* in one city alone there is more than 600 houses in foreclosure because the government doesn't support the people. Many lobbist in Washington are part of the problem. The lobbist in the the Republican party are in the interest of the elite, people who owns oil companies, pharmaceutical comp. The lobbist do not want to pay a lot tax, so the middle class is suffering because they have to pay more tax than the rich.
3, college is expensive and the loans companies are making money on the students.
4. Healthcare and insurance is a problem, many people can't afford insurance, especially low income familes.
5, the war, it takes 10 billion per month to stay in Iraq.
The politics in Washing ton needs to be fixed and the middle class families needs to get a break from paying Higher taxes than the rich. Senator Obama says that these are the problems that the county face. I believe that with the help of senator Clinton and other democrats, the problems such foreclosure, health insurcance, saftety and the costly war will be resolve. but they have to clean up the mess first. I believe the democrats will bring changes because they are in the interest of the people, not in the insterest of the lobbist or the elite or the oil industries. They can bring changes in many people's life who are now suffering.
Today, the republicans vote against a bill that will help lower the cost of gas for the Americans consumer because they make a lot profits. Also, they have business with lobbyist, According to yahoo, 93% of Mc Cain funds come from lobbyist.

If they want rationed health care like england and cuba, widen the medicaid acceptance for the poor and tell them to sign up on a waiting list for 12 months for an appointment. Thats the socialized medicine europe enjoys

Its not "so terrible" its SO EXPENSIVE because there is no oversight and the insurance companies and medical care providers charge outrageous mark ups.
We don't need "free" care, impoverished families already have free care. We need AFFORDABLE care for working families, small businesses and people with chronic illnesses that make them otherwise uninsurable.

the drug companies & health insurance have an army of lobbyists working to stop progress
while the doctors want their porsches & golfing days
hugs!

And why didn't Ted Kennedy go to another country for care? He can afford to go anywhere. Look, we have the best. Liberals just want me to pay for them.
