Well you can go online from your xbox but you need to buy a xbox live subscription from your local game store. You then walk through the instructions that are on the card. Make sure when purchasing the card that you tell them you have the old xbox. To be honest dont know how may people are going to be playing still. The best thing for you to do if you have the money is buy and xbox 360.

Yes. Many people still play Halo 2, hardcore fans that like it better than Halo 3. Plug the ethernet cable into your modem/router and into the back of the Xbox. You need a membership, 6 dollars a month.
